Are we sure it was an “accident” Oliver Chen (陳瑞光), leading member of Sunflower movement

Murder and assassination is part of KMT’s DNA, most likely because it’s founding members were inspired by the Meiji Restoration, where Japanese factions also employed murder and assassination.

Chiang Kai-shek himself became prominent after performing a hit on another KMT founder Tao Chengzhang (陶成章) for Sun Yat-sen.

Sun employed assassinations towards other KMT members as well, and other KMT members likewise tried to repay the favor. Chiang was involved in many of them with his buddy Chen Qi-mei (陳其美), they were both members of a Shanghai gang. Early important figures in the KMT, such as Zheng Ru-cheng (鄭汝成), Tao Jun-bao (陶駿保), and Song Jiao-ren (宋教仁) were also victims of Chiang and his buddy.

By the time Chiang rose into a leadership role, Wang Ching-wei (汪精衛) was also met with multiple assassinations. When he was shot 3 times during the 1935 KMT National Assembly’s group photo session, Chiang was mysteriously absent. Wang’s wife immediately turned to Chiang who showed up after the assassination and asked was it necessary to murder her husband. I think in recent years, Wang’s death in 1944 was also attributed to Chiang’s secret service.

Chiang also planned to assassinate Li Zhong-ren, another political opponent within the KMT, at least 3 times.

Chiang himself was on the receiving end of multiple assassinations from people also within the KMT party, the Japanese, the communists, and the Americans who in the end hated Chiang’s guts.

If the KMT treats their own party members this way, it isn’t hard to imagine what they do to their actual enemies.

I wouldn’t get mad at somebody who doesn’t know a lot about Spanish history.

You probably would if they were comfortably expressing their ignorance and accusing you of being paranoid at the same time. Unless you really are Jesus.

Hey, in this case, those articles and comments, sounded paranoid.

That’s like moving to a new neighborhood you were unaware of had a high crime rate and calling your neighbors’ efforts to bar their doors at night is paranoid.

Uhm… the way the guy argumented his points were a bit paranoid. He made some wrong statements, no matter if there have been politically motivated murders in the recent past. He sounded paranoid, although as I said, I wasn’t wary of these murders and I recognize that this could make people be more suspicious about this. But even so…

Are you talking about the comments made on this thread or in the TT article?

Article. I think :stuck_out_tongue:

What in particular? It did not make any statements that Chen was murdered.

Regarding motorcycle accidents. I wrote it before… you didn’t pay attention to my words!

I read it. But you mean you are responding to the comment on the article? And only that?

I actually new Oliver on a personal level. At the time, I hadn’t moved to Asia for too long and he was one of the few people that understood my situation, helped me through a tough time and even considered each other 兄弟. When I saw him getting interviewed on the news for his involvement in the Sunflower Movement, I was proud to say I knew him. I even remember talking to him while he was inside Xin Zhen Yuan, he said he only had the clothes he was wearing and it was a suit. He had to wear it for 3-4 days and eventually decided to get it dry cleaned. He didn’t say what he wore while he waited for his clothes to get washed though

When I heard the news, I was beyond devastated and I really thought that it was a dream. Eventually, it all sunk in and realized that the last time I had “乾杯” with him, was our last.

I’m not reading too much into what people think about how his accident occurred, but more focused the fact that I had lost a good friend and the world has lost an individual that was too young to die.

RIP Oliver
