My husband and I are hoping to make a trip to Taiwan in the summer of 2016. We are interested in purchasing several pieces for our art collection in San Diego. I was wondering if anyone has info on the best art galleries or spots close to Taipei that we can experience the street artists painting or Illustrating. We are staying in a local hotel and would love to have some inside info on the art scene before we head out!
Hello Dani,
I’ve been in Taipei for a long time, I recommend these galleries, they are my favorites, enjoy!

Thanks for this list! Are there any other new galleries you recommend since posting this five years ago?
I am here in Taipei for the next 2.5 weeks and would also love to support some local Taiwanese artists and buy some art pieces - primarily ones that can be hung on a wall but open to other types as well. Any new art gallery recommendations welcome!
No recommendations, but this site may be helpful for you - they’ve got flyers available at most MRT stations as well.
If you like antiques–Bai Win has should have some paintings.

I guess you left Taipei already, however Eslite Gallery is one of the leading contemporary art galleries in Taiwan. Check their online exhibitions here:

The gallery is located in Songshan Cultural park where you can find Taiwanese designer products and many art & cultural events.
Hope you come back to Taipei again soon!
Thanks for sharing! I told my good friend that I was looking to buy art in Taiwan, and funnily enough, her sister is the owner of Yuan Ru Gallery. I also went to a few other art galleries (e.g. Bluerider RenAi, Metaphysical Art, etc.), but the only gallery that I bought from was Yuan Ru - but not because of the personal connection.
They highlight Taiwanese artists, which I was looking for. They also had a good variety of artwork at a wider range of price points. I’d definitely recommend checking them out. I’m looking forward to seeing their next exhibition.
Nice! Hope you come back and buy more artworks from TW artists!
