Asiaworld Sauna is fantastic, but is there better?

I have a friend coming into Taiwan tomorrow night. He’s a cashed up chappy but he feels like having a night on the tiles and is happy seeking a joint like Asiaworld - massage/sauna place on the top of the Asiaworld (Fnac downstairs) on the corner of Dun Hua and Nanjing. It is a good deal. NT$500 (used to be) got you 12 hours in all the hot tubs and spa stuff you could need. There was legit and other stuff available, a long pool and all the fun tubs you could want, standard pjs and tea and free cigs . . . I quite often stayed there when I worked late. They have three cinema sized sleeping areas with duvets and “president chairs” and different levels of aircon in each. If needs be they can clean and iron a shirt socks and jocks within four hours for a very reasonable sum.

But that was four years ago, is there anything better now?

HG

For what it’s worth, the business friend of mine who has used AsiaWorld for four years running doesn’t go there since it changed hands. He says the service has declined significantly. He also objected to being propositioned in the middle of the night by prostitutes knocking on random doors hoping to score.

Whoa! Now that there is an update! Never those sort of shenanigans previously!

So where does he go now?

Thanks.

HG

Yeah, I want to know what he was doing there before. Under prior management the prostitution was all above board.

Or at least through a more discrete board.

HG

Yes, under the previous management he still did get the odd knock on the door and hopeful request ‘massaji?’, but apparently under the new management it was even worse. Now his company actually rents an apartment for when he’s over here (he actually lives in Seattle).

Hmmm…I recall hearing that Asiaworld used to have one of the fanciest Jui Dian as well as steam and cream.

It certainly has a very good buffet dinner, and excellent gym facilities. My friend was most reluctant to let go the gym facilities, the swimming pool particularly.

Hang on, we’re talking past each other. The knock on the door should have been the give away, cos the only doors are, well you’re already committed to the other, lets say, or so I hear.

Asiaworld sauna is on the top floor (15th?) of the FNAC building on the corner of Dunhua and Nanjing, which is next to the Asiaworld Hotel, where incidently I held my wedding reception in the presidential suite.

It used to be called Caesar’s Sauna, and still has the Chinese “kai sa” branded around the building. It has a big swimming pool with all sorts of mad Roman type guffery scattered around a vast array of hot/cold dip pools and steam and saunas, etc. It’s a huge sauna joint for blokes. There’s usually quite a few travelling Taiwanese business types stopping there for the night, but it is also popular, and a cool hang on a hot weekend.

As my office was nearby if I’d worked late or just had wayy too many and was worried about getting up in the morning I often used to go and crash there. Hand them my shirt, jocks and socks and get them back clean to head straight to the office the next day, reatively refreshed.

The fee was a standard NT$500 for 12 hours. They offered legit and “oil massage.” Actually, the legit massage, which used oil and so caused me some confusion on one memorable instance, was very good.

HG

Ok, I’m not sure which situation you’re referring to now. I’m talking about the situation where the hotel management has an understanding with the local wenches for hire, and lets them into the hotel (even on the club level), to cruise for marks, either by hanging out in the lobby or just blatantly knocking on the doors of private rooms.

Nothing to do with the hotel of the same name, I’m talking about Asiaworld Sauna, which is next door, upstairs from Ikea and FNAC.

HG

Ah, I thought that was part of the same company.

Maybe, but at arm’s length I imagine.

Cheers.

I used to go there for this old man that gave me a massage and crack my bones/joints.

That was 4 years ago. They charged me like 150 for the first x hours (never went beyond it must be like 12 hours).

then guy massage was 200-300ish.

the girls did a legit oil massage and facial. I did a few facials cuz the air in Taiwan did wonders to my face, and those treatments helped, though the girls were not all equally trained.

i was sleeping in a couch half-watching the TV, and this mamasan came and bothered me. Usually, it was a polite lady that asked me conversationally what I needed, such as drink, food, etc., and then popped the other question. This time, it was some hag that got indignant when I refused. That pissed me off. So the next time I saw the polite lady, I complained.

I love the pool most of all. that’s a real treat in many places, not the least Taiwan. There were 3: a caldarium (hot water), regular water, and frigidarium (cold, freezing).

nice to soak your bones.

Yep the Prince Crown Sauna 02 8773 5877 which is located under CAPONES restaurant. I stay there quite a lot. Home away from home. You can enter from the Capones restaurant side or on the Kuangfu s Rd entrance. If you are taking the MRt go to the Sun Yat Sen terminal take the number 2 exit which is just in front of Capones.

There is a main entrance on the Corner of KuangFu S rd and Chunhsiao E rd. You see a table outside the door.

Also a good 24hr Chinese restaurant nearby too.

Hola! Many thanks Sat man!

Now my next question is, would it be really bad form to go off and frolic in the spa and leave Meesus Huang to sleep in the hotel?

Not if you send her up here to Alishan for the weekend to enjoy some home comforts and your daughter will have plenty of other kids to play with. Unfortunately it’s probably just too far as I’m not sure how long your visit to my island will be?

Alas only until Monday night, and all day tomorrow is a wedding, Sunday the recovery and Monday sorting out a pile of my old crap.

Now I;d probably forego the spa for a trip to Alishan.

Cheers.

HG

Of course, there IS a big typhoon coming. If you can get out at all, a visit to a sauna wouldn’t be nearly the mess it would be going to Alishan in this weather!

Satellite TV’s recommendation is great. I stayed there last night, and it’s all legit, it’s clean, and the cigs are free. I liked the pools, the steam room, and the sauna, and the bunk bed room was great.

An alternative is this one, great reviews on Yahoo taiwan tw.lifestyle.yahoo.com/biz.html? … 9e57249990
