Asking about opening a company in Taiwan

Hello everyone,

I’d like to ask for advice from foreigners who have successfully opened a company in Taiwan and appointed themselves as the responsible person/manager in order to obtain a work permit and ARC.

A bit of background about me: I have been working in Taiwan for about 4–5 years and have saved some money during that time. I’m now planning to leave my current job and start my own company in the 3D design / creative sector.

I have a few questions and would really appreciate hearing from people who have gone through this process:

  1. What sector is your company in?

  2. How much capital did you register for the company?

    • Are you the sole shareholder?
  3. Would it be difficult to obtain a work permit if the registered capital is only NT$500,000?

    • Would registering NT$1,000,000 be safer for approval?
  4. How much did you pay for a CPA or accounting firm to handle the company setup and related procedures?

  5. What did you use as the company’s registered address? (e.g., office space, shared office, accounting firm address, etc.)

  6. Is it possible to register a company while still holding an ARC sponsored by my current employer?
Or would it be better to first leave my job and switch to a job-seeking ARC, then start the company?

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

$500000

Yes

No.

No. But when importing foreign currency, you might wanna buffer for currency exchange differences that might put you under.

Here is the Taiwan CPA I recommend and use. He speaks English. Rates are reasonable.

I did mine many years ago so I have to ask what the rates are now.

At the time, since I don’t need a dedicated office and I rented, I used a mailbox I paid monthly for.

Now I use my house cause I bought mine.

Yes.

Doesn’t matter. How long has your ARC been valid for?

Is there a problem if I invest $400000 and my Taiwanese business partner invest $100000 ?

I have been here for 10 - 11 years since I was a student and started working 4-5 years ago, and it’s currently still valid until July

That I’d ask the CPA I provided.

Student time doesn’t count. This ARC how long has it been valid for?

I also recall you’re an overseas Chinese. Why don’t you just go for full citizenship?

The work ARC has been valid for 4 years

I assume you are gonna ask for APRC ? If yes, then my current salary won’t qualify for the salary requirement for APRC

As for full citizenship, that would mean me forfeiting my Indonesian passport, and I don’t think that’s a wise decision for me.

No. But the business can get to the APRC when you report with the right salary level.

No it wouldn’t. You’re an overseas Chinese. You’re already a citizen, who would want to deal with the shit we have to is mind boggling.

You’re not even allowed to get an APRC.

$28k NTD for a branch office, (back in 2023, might have increased since).

They can set all that up with a local provider of such services. (Minimal monthly recurring cost which will be variable depending on what you need.)

Only use if your Chinese is good, they don’t speak English!
