Aussies & baby bonus

i phoned up the Australian Ofice today and asked about how to apply for the Baby Bonus ($4,000AU payment given to new born aussie babies). They didn’t know anything about it and told me to check the ATO website (which is wrong as i thought it was Centrelink managing these payments). So i waited a bit, got my wife to ring them (a taiwanese) and she got the same answer.

So has anyone fellow Aussies applied for the Baby Bonus while here? if so, how did you do it?

we are applying for it now. basic rule - you need to do it before bub is 26 weeks old. living overseas however muddies the water somewhat, and its a case by case basis
