Australia day?

hi all,

Any aussies doing anything special for Australia Day - ie beer, barbie and more beer etc?

Some of you may recall that we were expecting our child yesterday but he decidied not to come and instead - to stay inside where it is warm. So we are still waiting and i’m hoping that he’ll be an Australian day bub. if so, that’ll put me in the mood for some good Australia Day celebrations.

So, arrival of the baby allowing, do any fellow Aussies in Taipei want to get together for an Aussie day drink and hopefully to welcome a new Aussie baby in the next few days?

When is Oz Day?
& what does it recall?
Surely Not Gallipoli?
That’s would seen to have hold a diffrent nomer with you’se Bruce’s 'N’all.?

Hope all’s well with you & yours. (“all together, now!”)
:note: :bouncy:

Oz Day celebrates the European invasion/colonization of Australia. In fact, it wasn’t until the 1990s or so that the concept of “terra nullius” or empty land, was overturned. So legally, all the Aboriginals who were in Oz prior to British settlement didn’t exist under the concept of terra nullius.

Oh, and it’s on the 26th Jan.

Damn. I missed it.
Happy Oz Day.
May you be colonized yet again.
And Many Happy Returns.

I forgot it was Australia day, again, like a good Australian I am and only realized it was Australia day when someone else told me. Isnt it where we celebrate still being under british rule and not having enough guts to get our own flag and be a republic?
