My Dear friends: No disrespect to Mr Joesax for assigning me an avatar, nor to Ms Buttercup for installing it, but I feel it’s time for a change. I’m a computer moron. On a previous post I asked about the methods of implementing this monumental task and Mr Joesax was kind enough to respond, but in computer jargon which I am unable to comprehend. I have perused the “free avatar” google thingies and have even been able to download one or two (my computer is Chinese and eats betel nuts), so you can appeciate how hard this has been for me. However, when I go to the “edit avatar” page I get a “URL address request” thing. How to do this? Help a poor old fool.

If you’re using firefox, right click on the image and choose “copy image location”, this will put the url of the image in your clipboard. Then you can go to set avatar thingy in your Forumosa Control Panel and press Ctrl+V to paste said address.
If you’re using IE, get a proper browser.

To paste an avatar you need to save it to your hard drive first (if it’s on the web), because if you just right click and go to properties and copy THAT URL address, you’ll be stealing bandwidth and the link may be broken by the site owner. So instead: [color=#0000BF]right click, Save[/color] the image to your, say, desktop. You’ve apparently already managed this part.
Then upload it back to the web at a free image hosting site, so that it will have a URL (=web address) you can use. For example [color=#0000BF]go to ImageShack.com. Click Browse[/color], 
then find the file on your computer, and [color=#0000BF]click Host It[/color]!. It shows you a page with a whole series of 9 or so different addresses. Go to the bottom. Do NOT use the last link already showing. Instead, just BELOW that, [color=#0000BF] click the link that says Show Advanced Linking[/color]. 
It will then [color=#FF0040]add [/color]one more “Direct link to image” address below that, with a warning not to use it. Ignore this warning (ImageShack just wants you to use the others, which add its advertising to your image; you don’t want the ads). [color=#0000BF]Copy that URL address.[/color] To copy it, click on the link or drag your cursor across it until it’s all a different color, and hit Control C.
Then go to your User Control Panel --> PROFILE --> Edit Avatar page on Forumosa, go to where it says [quote]Link off-site:
Enter the URL of the location containing the avatar image you wish to link to.
[/quote]
Paste the URL (i.e., web address) entitled Direct Link to Image from ImageShack. To paste, hit Control V. Hit Submit, and you should be done. Go click Own to find some of your own posts and see if you’ve got a new avatar:

im home but looks like the dragon beat me to it. Yup, thats what to do. And on your user control panel on forumosa you can select profile and then edit avatar and put in the url from your web host with what you wanna put there.

Uh thank us for what? I dont see an avatar in your frame yet. Looks like you messed up. Back to the drawing board for ya. Thats what you see (one stupid square ) when you louse it up. Read and redo . And get back to us.
Not everyone was meant to have an avatar. It is an expression of the self, which obviously includes figuring out how to punch the few keys really needed to accomplish the task. For some, the blank, open space is really a better representation of their will and ability.
For others, it’s an indeterminate cartoon animal.
Not only was I unable to get a new avatar, but I lost my old one in the attempted aquisition process. Why is everything in !@#$%^& Chinese? :fume:
Forumosa is all in English, as is Imageshack, so I have no idea what you’re talking about.

It keeps telling me “the URL you specified is invalid”.
Can you show us what you are trying to use? Maybe someone can upload it for you and give you the link.
Are you following BFM’s instructions, or mine? His won’t work if you’re looking at an image on your hard drive; it would have to be an image online, AFAIK. Why don’t you post the URL here for us to look at?
ON image shack make sure you are using the last one. The one they said not to use. Thats the url you should use
