It seems that Jackie Chan has just been made a goodwill ambassador for the UN. Presumably the logic is that by gratuitously insulting countries which aren’t part of the UN, he’s actively spreading goodwill in those countries who are in the UN.
From the Beeb …
Martial arts film actor Jackie Chan has become a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations’ Children’s Fund and UN Aids’ agencies.
``I also, you know, respect him for scolding me, or challenging me. This is what freedom of speech is all about. But I hope he will also respect me in return,’’ Jackie Chan said.
This was a reward setup by the Communist PRC. It also helps Beijing since now how could anyone challenge the sincerity of a UN Goodwill ambassador? It gives Yacky Chen’s statements more credibility.
why is he so pro-beiping anyway? i know he studied marital arts in china but does that really mean he has to be the CCP’s gimp?
the whole thing about calling taiwan’s elections a joke a week before beiping announces the death of any democratic aspirations for HK is pretty sickening to me
I’m sure he needs to study marital arts and the meaning of marital duties – he seems to have been a lousy husband along with all his other manifest failings.
ac_dropout, Steven Seagal is no servant of the Dalai Lama. Having been recognized as a reincarnated Buddhist master in his own right by Nyingma lama Penor Rinpoche, Seagal is the EQUAL of the Dalai Lama.
Wasn’t Gerri Halliwell (the red-haired one whose tit flopped out during the Brit Awards) from the Spice Girls a UN Goodwill Ambassador? So clearly this is a postition of prestige (the Goodwill Ambassador, not her tit)…
According to the article, though, he contacted them, not the other way around.
Here an interesting twist Arnold Schwarzenegger was invited to Taiwan for Pres Chen May 20th embarrassing speech. Arnold is also starring in Around the World in 80 days with Jackie Chan.
How the DPP try to ban the movie, and in a faux pas try to invite one of the stars to movie to Taiwan.
Talk about immaturity in understanding international politics.
You really love spinning things around, don’t you? Dizzy yet? Sit down for a bit, your head will clear out.
First, ONE party member said it.
Secondly, he SAID it, he didn’t DO IT!! Didn’t even TRY!!! Big difference. Huge difference. MASSIVE, ENORMOUS, WIDE-OPEN GAPING difference.
The guy was an party member, it reflects badly on them. Thus Arnold declined, since he was involved in the movie.
Arnold didn’t decline because he was involved in the movie. He has to turn around the world’s SIXTH largest economy, and by most accounts, he is doing a pretty good job. The Lt. Gov. is going instead.
