Ban Jackie Chan from Taiwan, says legislator

Someone else can source this, but my understanding is that Jet Li actually was a kick-butt martial artist and won tournaments and such. Jackie Chan studied to be a minstral or something.

Yeah, Jet Li (who, incidentally, rules the universe, despite crap movies by the bucket load - interested to see Danny The Dog, though, pit fighting in Scotland!) won five consecutive National Martial Arts Championships in the mid-70s.

Jackie Chan was dumped into one of those opera schools as a kid, I think. Maybe he won some competitions, but he’s a wanker so I don’t want to go and find out.

wolf_reinhold,

Jet Li is a multiple national Champion in Wu Shu competition. It is a modernized verison of kung fu forms performace created by the CCP. Lot of practicioners of Wu Shu go to HK to become kung fu choreographers. Jet Li claim to fame in the USA was that he was invited to perform for Pres. Nixion when he was in office.

Jackie’s fundimental training came from traditional Chinese Opera.

Any event they are both actors now, so I doubt they would agree to any martial sport competition in real life.

Jet Li even admitted in an interview about his film Cradle2the Grave that UFC fighters Tito Ortiz and others(acting in the same movie) would kick his ass in a real fight. He may be patronizing them but I think he knows where he stands in a real fight.

sticks of fury,

I think it is also because he is not Steven Siegal and doesn’t needs to prove anything on the set.

Jet li is now almost in the same league as Jackie in terms of being a businessman in entertainment. Director, Executive producer, actor. Only thing Jet doesn’t have is an active production company like Jackie.

The main thing Jet Li, Jackie Chan and Steven Seagal have in common is complete absence of acting talent.

True but Steven Seagal acts (runs) like a girl when he acts like he is running very fast. No offense to the girls out there. Also Jet Li and Jackie both have muscles (definition) through training. Steven on the other hand has no muscle definition at all. He really must have bs’ed his way to fame.

Yes also notice no one bother asking Steven Seagal his opinion on Taiwan poitics. Must be because is a servant of the Dali Lama now.

Jet li, jackie chan…i’ll kick both their skinny asses…come and have a go if you think you’re 'ard enuff…

Back to the topic. Jacky CHan’s films will not be banned in Taiwan, nor should they be. China does the banning and the altering, not Taiwan. However, Taiwanese should feel free not to see his movies if they do not wish to. Many of my friends will not be seeing his new movie when it is released in Taiwan. However, as most of my friends are pan-Green, that is hardly surprising.

“However, Taiwanese should feel free not to see his movies if they do not wish to”…double negative in there somewhere methinks

True, but SS does have an affected gravitas. Or do I mean gravy ass.

In the same way You don’t go to MacDonald’s expecting a gourmet meal, you don’t watch a Seagal movie hoping to see fine acting.
I watch Seagal movies for the cool aikido moves. Under Siege was especially good.

…oh my God! Spackling, all your taste must be in your mouth…

“You don’t go to MacDonald’s expecting a gourmet meal”…i go to micky d’s expecting to feel physically nauseous…therefore by a process of logical deduction i guess watching mr sea gal would cause a likewise reaction no?

I just had this flash of Jackie in blackface with a banjo:

“Banqiao ladies sing this song
do-dah, do-dah…”

:astonished:

…oh my God! Spackling, all your taste must be in your mouth…[/quote]

Some people pretend they never include junk food in their movie diet. Not me. I have very wide ranging tastes, from goofy movies like Happy Gilmore to artsy flicks like Dogville.
Having said that I can’t stand Jackie Chan moives or Van Damme! I suppose what appeals to me about Seagal is his kickass aikido skills.

I admit I like McD’s Big Macs, spicy chicken burgers and apple pies. The 10NT ice creams are quite nice too, but I never touch the fries. I go once every five or six weeks usually when I’m out doing my shoppnig.

eating mc’d’s is a bit like masturbation…feels good at the time but you always feel a bit sleazy and unwholesome afterwards…(what the fuck has this to do with taiwan politics?)

Speak for yourself!
