Hi fellow Forumosans,
It seems like this topic has been posted in the past, but the threads are already over a few years old.
I’d like to hear some opinions on which banks - in your experience - offer the ‘best’ online banking experience. Bonus points for banks that support foreign currencies at reasonable rates (USD, EUR)
Further follow-up question: do you read Chinese? I suspect the answers are going to be quite different based on whether someone can manage a Chinese interface or not.
To be honest I’m not sure if you’re going to find much in the way of useful info here. Many of us have troubles with banking because we’re not citizens and have ID numbers that banking systems don’t like, so our experiences are going to be quite different from what Taiwanese citizens encounter.
(I’ve never dealt with a useful English-language app for any of my bank accounts in Taiwan.)
The spread on USD tends to be quite narrow for most banks, though you tend to get a better deal if you have status or know the manager. The spread on EUR is wider.
I’ve used Standard Chartered and they have a decent English app. I use it regularly for ForEx , International/Local transfers and for seeing my transaction history. The UI/UX is a bit dull and unorganized, but it has 2 factor authentication and it’s generally manageable.
Having said that, their cards don’t work at a lot of local places in Taiwan (such as 7/11, FamilyMart, Line Pay, Jiekou etc). For those you’d need a more “local” bank I’m afraid.
