They had to be evacuated by helicopter because the makeshift path they went in collapsed.

All the way up? You would think they would hit some kind of impassible boulders or whatever

Yup, and those heavy equipments are still up there. Partly because they want to return to dig some drainage systems into the side of the landslide to prevent future landslides. Partly because they don’t actually have a way down after their makeshift path collapsed.
