man, that’s awesome stuff!!!
especially cool when a city has multiple teams. kind of sad that Mets and A’s fandom doesn’t dominate any region on the map though…
also interesting that there’s a pocket of Redsox fans in Virginia, what’s that about?
how closely does this map correspond to each team’s TV broadcast maps? and I wonder when A’s and Mets are doing great, would the map look different…
Yep no love for Mets.
Seems like Yanks and also the Red Sox are the fave choices wherever there’s no obvious one, and get some love everywhere. Red Sox poke through a bit there in VA for some reason. NC near SC border too. Maybe there’s a Red Sox player from there?

by the way, I find the distribution in Hawaii and Alaska fascinating. Just look at how diverse the fans are in Oahu. For same reason the Giants are favored in both places.

Probably due more to Tankee hate than Bosox love.
Like that T shirt you see
Awesome post, Mr TG, many thanks!
by the way, do every NBA team chant Beat LA, or just those in the western division? or do they chant that by replacing LA with other city names? because if I remembered correctly, I’ve only heard Beat LA. If that is the case, why the LA hate?
‘Beat LA’ is from Laker/Celtic games in the '80s. My friend had a ‘Beat LA’ Celtics t shirt in the '80s. A quick google image shirt will show a majority Celtics lean.
Baseball really only has a few teams that draw fans. Once you get past Red Sox, Yankees, Giants, Cardinals, Dodgers, Cubs and to a lesser extent the Braves it becomes a very local sport. The Cubs and the Braves are big due to WGN and TBS broadcasting their games all over the place, The Dodgers and Giants are big rivals and moved across country counting fans on both coasts, while the Yankees and Sox are the modern day rivalry with the Cardinals being in many ways the model franchise.
I would like to see how Canadian fandom pans out as the East Coast is full of Red Sox fans and BC loves all the Seattle teams.
