The government is tired of threats of being sued for people doing their own stupid shit. I kind of agree. Thus the government puts signs everywhere to avoid liability. We can all laugh at the signs, but the reason is legit: entitled idiots can’t sue us. Frankly, if you drown, it’s on you. The government has zero responsibility for a person’s own decisions that might get them killed. Be it ocean, river, ditch etc. So many mountain areas have been closed/blocked due to entitled morons thinking they can do anything they want and blame everyone else when things go pear shaped. It’s beyond frustrating for anyone on the field trying to reason with people.
I feel for the people injured or dead, don’t get me wrong. Tragic. But that was their own doing. No one forced them to go there and do that, be smarter. The government should not be held accountable for people doing something that resulted in their death. The victims families should be thankful Taiwan doesn’t charge them for all the costs due to the bad decisions those people made (eg. Coast guard, search parties, helicopter scanning etc). Frankly, loads of morons every year put rescue workers at huge risk because they are literally too stupid. I would say the truly innocent tragic victims are the minority whilst the incredibly entitled accidents are the majority. Having been involved with rescue many times I am kind of done with the whiney city people complaining. They should get a bill, usually in the millions, for the trouble they have caused.
