Tragedy at Fulong Beach. ![]()

Bravo to the surfers who rescued her. Sadly, it doesn’t sound hopeful for the guy.
They’ve found the body. What a tragedy.
Seems they were caught in a rip current at the right hand side of the beach near the temple. Here’s a first hand account from the Foreigners in Taiwan blog who was there at the time.
Have been at that same beach a few times before with the kids and never felt that dangerous.Keep yourself and your loved ones safe out there.
Rip currents next to the temple-side bank flow toward the outer sea year-long steadily. Sometimes the flow can’t be detected on the surface, but can be powerful beneath the waist level.
During high tides, the rip currents can increase their volume and force all of a sudden.
Looks
Like there was another drowning north of Dulan yesterday. Saw the helicopter circling the shoreline. That’s never good news.
Possibly looking for the body of the Green Island one? Unless that’s too far.
Nah, that guy’s family have offered US 6k to get him back , but the drowning up the coast was in Douli I believe.
Probably at the famous mirror beach. ![]()
Also, some 6-year-old kid fell in, and a guy jumped in after him. Gone. Still gone, so says the wife.
Seems like the sea gods are hungry this summer.
The Mexican guy could have been dragged by the currents all the way to Okinawa, according to news reports.
Yeah the ocean current is that way.
Found the 18 year old who drowned in Douli.

The body was found at 10:58 a.m. near the northern reefs of Douli beach, and was confirmed to be the missing student by his family.
The rip currents there were horrible. We were there for a few days, watching people let their kids play. I was a bit surprised as the waves were very clearly dangerous.
We took a bunch of videos as it was pretty wild to watch the waves and feel the force of even the shallow water!
The local fishermen told me the south winds are a’ blowing so I should stay out of the water.
Ya, it was pretty wild. Didn’t stop the surfers, kids and parties it seems. Long weekend trumps drowning risk haha.
Well
Most of them didn’t drown, so relax.
Very relaxed, beach for 3 days. Was pretty nice. Not for some though, as you already brought up. Not really sure what you are always so anxious about, but anyway, people would be wise to understand and read the conditions. Some news.
A 18-year-old high school student was swept out to sea by strong currents while visiting the beach with six peers near Fangliao Fish Harbor around 3 p.m. Sunday. The body was recovered early Monday.
Another death, this time involving a French national in northern Taiwan, swimming at Shalun Beach in Xinbei. According to the report below, swimming is officially prohibited there due to a spate of drowning accidents at that beach over the years.
