Best and worst comedians

Comedy is my favorite genre for tv and movies. Who’s funny and who is not in your opinion?

Funny: Ben stiller, Jerry stiller, Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson, John Candy, Martin Lawrence, Jim Carrey, Chevy Chase, Steve Carell, Ellen, Rain Wilson, Jerry Seinfeld, Michael Richards, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander, Eugene Levy,

Annoying- Rosie, Roseanne, David Spade, Bob Saget, Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore, Gilbert Godfreid, Mr. Bean

I’m sure Jim Carrey will be on the annoying side for many here, but i do like Cable Guy. Will Ferrell is a funny guy in a lot of shit movies. Then we have the group that is somewhere in between(Billy Crystal, Luke Wilson, Charlie Sheen) Where does Chris Rock fit in?

We’d have problems in the rental section I see …Ben Stiller is the worst of them, but his father is cool.

Best
Redd Foxx–way back in the day.
Jerry Seinfeld–when he’s doing stand-up only.
Steve Allen
Dan Ackroyd
Jim and James Belushi
Steve Martin–70’s
Milton Berle
Albert Brooks
Woody Allen–pre-Sung Yi
Mel Brooks :notworthy:
Carol Burnett
George Burns–only in the “God” movies
Bernie Mac–“I ain’t scared of YOU”
Sid Cesar
GEORGE CARLIN–oh he will be missed. But he has a new tv/cd show coming soon
Tina Fey–That woman is a fool!
Tracy Morgan
John Clease
Andrew “Dice” Clay–before drugs and all the other drama
Bill Cosby–when he talks about his family
Dick Gregory
Billy Crystal–Oscar time
Rodney Dangerfield
Whoopi Goldberg—WAY back in the 80s. But I bet behind close doors she’s frekin riot.
John Goodman
“Beat” Takeshi Kitano

Worst
Carrot Top

Those two make me want to have a NRA membership…

Gilbert Gottfried is pretty fucking hillarious. Unfunny? That’s the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. I’m about to have a heart attack and die because of how utterly ridiculous that is.

Old school Billy Connolly
Eddie Izzard
Harry Hill
Old School Reeves and Mortimer
Chris Morris
SNL era Eddie Murphy

Bad… Adam Sandler

Bernard Manning
Roy “Chubby” Brown

and Martin Lawrence is meant to funny? His act just seems to be reminding everybody he’s black

A great list, but why is this guy on it? My Japanese friends rave about his gangster flicks but are meh about his comedies. I figured I’d check the guy out and watched “Kantoku Banzai!” Rubbish, a perfectly awful film, although the homage to Tampopo was hilarious. I credit Tampopo. However I’ve only seen the one movie, so recommend something funny by Takeshi Kitano.

If you like laughing at jokes nature plays on mankind then yes, Gottfried is funny. But as an entertainer? No.

Check out : Kikujiro He can be a bit dry, but when he has his moments, they are worthy, IMO

I don’t think anyone mentioned Steven Wright. I expect one would find a very strong divergence of opinion on him.

Stevie Wright is totally funny. My favorite line: “Sponges grow in the ocean. That just kills me. I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be if that didn’t happen.”

He doesn’t tell any funny jokes -at least from the performances I’ve seen. He just says ordinary things in a funny voice. I don’t find that funny.

Also:

Funny: Steven Wright (thanks…I didn’t know his name.)
Funny: George Carlin! (Saw him live on stage a few years back.) George is dead, man…miss 'im, miss 'im.
Unfunny: Carrot Top

Long before Ali G, there was the little battler from Wollongong . . . Normie!

Norman Gunston interviewing Mick Jagger.

HG

One thing that many people don’t know. Kind of a strange-but-true thing.

Sinbad is funny.

Believe it or not.

You list Stephen Colbert as funny, but Jon Stewart as unfunny? How come?

Next time you watch The Daily Show, pay attention to when Jon goes off script. You will realize that while he makes a good host, he is totally not funny. I think most of his jokes fall flat. I think Colbert performs much better in this area.

These Guys are funny:
Jim Gaffigan
Mitch Hedberg
George Carlin
Rodney Dangerfield
Steven Wright
Lewis Black
Stephen Colbert
Jon Stewart
Demitri Martin
Dave Chappelle
Simpsons
Jerry Seinfeld
Russell Peters
Larry the Cable Guy

I used to think these guys were funny, and can still take them in small doses:
Mike Birbiglia
Chris Rock
Carlos Mencia
Jamie Foxx
Jim Carey
Sam Kinison
Don Martin
Dane Cook
Robin Williams

I have always hated this man . . .

Chevy Chase

I just noticed that there isn’t a woman on the list.

I guess Ellen is funny and Wanda Sykes is funny, too.

Gilda Radner
Phil Hartman
Bruce McCulloch
Lenny Bruce
David Cross
Sarah Silverman
Carol Burnett
Tracy Ullman
