I’m grabbing an international driver’s license on this trip home and would like to rent a car upon returning to Taiwan (hopefully during a weekday) to do some moving. Has anyone had a good experience renting at any particular stores?
Basic info: I speak/read Chinese. I am a foreigner.

I think Sulavaca may have cars for Rent,HK,just hope you don’t have to pay him with gold.
I’ve rented from different agencies and never had a problem. They are all pretty much the same. Do note that the deductable is pretty high: NT$10,000 so don’t get in an accident.
EasyRent were very nice when I dealt with them recently. Lots of locations in Taipei. Discounts for multi-day rentals. easyrent.com.tw/English/Locations.html
Pretty sure minimum age is 21.
Btw, Hok, the IDP (it’s a permit not a license) is only good for 30 days. You must then take it to the motor vehicle office to get stamped for the duration. It’s an easy process. I’ve done that for years rather than bother taking the local driving test.
Oh and wouldn’t a taxi be cheaper than renting a car?
cars have been expensive to rent whenever we have, like crazy expensive.
i had no idea, they told me had to leave country and come again like a visa…i got dinged $8k for that ticket a while ago (IDP was over 30 days but not expired).

My friend used to haul sludge water samples for years and always rented car at rental right next to 師大分部. They’ve also get vans, which might come in handy for your moving session.
I thought there was a limited time only…eg I month extra, then you have to go again,Monthly ,to extend? Is it possible to extend an IDP,in one go,for it’s whole date validity?
Got upgraded one time at LAX from ‘full size’ to ‘luxury’. I had the thing for three weeks too, and my ‘full size’ reservation was on a steep discount.
Should say relatively expensive. $70US/day is pretty expensive for Asia. But we have usually paid $2500-3000/day for a small-medium 4 door toyota. I could rent a similar car for the same price back in Canada at that time. But with the driving skill i think it is logical why it costs so much more here (while also maintaining good cars unlike many other countries in the region).
Renting is definitely cheaper for me. I’ll be moving from Nankan to Taipei (about $700 in a taxi), and I’ll need to make at least two trips with a full car, several more if I can only put stuff in the back of the taxi. Last time, my gf’s sister helped me move but I don’t want to put her out like that again, so I’ll just rent and drive myself.
When you say “deductible” you mean I get back upon returning the car, right?

Yes, they stamp it for the validity of the IDP and your ARC. If your ARC expired in 6 months then you will get 6 months. If it expires in two years then they will stamp the IDP for the full year. I’ve been doing this for over ten years and even had an accident once and the police had no problem accepting my stamped IDP.

No, the deductible it was you would pay first before the insurance kicks in. If you don’t have an accident or there’s no damage then you don’t need to worry. This isn’t a deposit.
