Best High-end Japanese Restaurant in Taipei?

I would listen to you but what do the French know about good food?

you’re the one who was played with earlier on and took the bait,i won’t be as dumb as you,Fred.
and for the love of god, remove that avatar!

Yeah, but I wanted YOU to be the one to play with me.

or did something with the bait

Too late.

Find me a good replacement, maybe something with Villepin crying or reading his god-awful poetry and I will consider it. Learn to use spaces after commas and negotiations may begin…

Mitsui is good, but can be a bit factory like.

Suntory is crap.

You’ve mentioned this place before. I’m going to the Chungle this weekend. Can you give me the address? I’ve a mind to blow a wad on some good food.[/quote]

sorry for the 2 year delay,i had to dig thru my business card stacks, and even tough i only spent 10 months in taiwan,i had something like half a billion to sieve thru.

Mokuboku Restaurant
Hui Lai Rd. # 110
Sec. 1 Taichung City

if you go with a date, the bar/stools downstairs will be best,as you’ll face the chef and he’ll try and get you really drunk.
but if you are a party of 6 or more you’ll be in one of the VIP rooms upstairs, enjoy.

Yeah, but I wanted YOU to be the one to play with me.

i think it’s only right that you pay tribute to the man who brought France to an 180 degree move regarding our stance towards America.

so here’s the offering=

this one has to be the killer!!

The third best expensive Japanese Restaurant is 高玉日本料理
which is located at 104台北市中山區建國北路1段92巷8號1樓. I usually go to 高玉2, but I don’t have the address on me. It is considered an expensive and high quality restaurant even in Japan. Fish is expressed in daily from Japan.

The best i’ve been to, is this secretive place I can’t even remember the location of. The name is two charaters in Japanese, and pronounced Ji1 Shih4 in Chinese. Supposedly the most high end in taiwan, only people in the know go there. you can’t even tell there’s a restaurant from outside, pretty hard to find. Around 4K per person for a good meal. They have a sushi bar, and then two private rooms. If you get one of the private rooms, the waitresses get on their knees when they serve you

Sorry can’t be more specific about the location…you might want to ask around or maybe have a local attempt a search on the internet.

Thanks for the address, frog. I’ll be down there again soon and will be trying this place.

Fred, sorry I didn’t come through with the address of that place in Xintien. I drove up there a week or two back and it looked closed up.

I agree with Elegua… Suntory was awful when I went and Mitsui has its strengths and weaknesses. I can’t believe Sumie at San Want hotel is not on your list. It’s my favorite and their basic set menus are a bargain. (Trade the lamb chops for steak and you will be back!)

Shan Hua/Mountain Flower is pretty great, though yes, a very high end place.

as for the poster who mentioned the tonkatsu place near Ren Ai, have you been to Saboten? It’s wayyyyy better than that particular tonkatsu place IMHO. Their tonkatsu is line inspiring, meaning you will probably run into their wait list, which is basically a line that runs around the walls near the entrance.
