A brief bit about me. 10+ years ESL teaching experience. 1,000+ hours teaching online with Tutor4U (now defunct I think) and eTalking. ~10 years living in Taiwan. Have marriage ARC.
Right now, I’m trying to find some online tutoring work and wondering if anyone has suggestions of a good company? #1 priority is decent pay. $500+ NTD per lesson. Anything less than that is bullshit, IMO. I used to make $540 at Tutor4U but it seems the pay has consistently gone down since then. However, being used to that, taking $450 per lesson is insulting. Better to go back to some horrid cram school.
I currently work for VIP Kid, an online English teaching company based in Beijing. Pay is about $600 NTD per hour (Lessons are 25 minutes each; 2 lesson per hour). You must be a U.S. or Canadian Citizen. No prep time, you just follow the prepared lessons on their teaching platform, age range 4-15 (you can decide which levels you want to teach).
I don’t know if this information applies to you or is what you are looking for, but I can give you more information if you are interested.
Thanks a lot! I will definitely give them a look.
@lostintaipei20 I was signing up for the website and one of the first pages has a place for a referral code. I thought I might ask if you have one you want to share with me? Maybe you get some benefits or something if I get hired.
Yes, the company likes to hire teachers who have been referred by current teachers on the platform. Feel free to use my code! Link and code are below.
Also feel free to ask any questions along the way if you need help going through the hiring process. Good luck!

Thanks, I used your code and set a time for a demo. However, I can already foresee one issue which is that I don’t have WiFi right now. I use my phone’s hotspot at the moment for all my Internet. I’m sure they will want me to have proper Internet before I can teach. But I figure I can go through the demo first and see if I get the job before ordering new WiFi.
But I was curious if the demo is really just a straight demo, or it’s also an interview process? Will I be able to to discuss issues and questions during the demo session?
Actually, I’ve been teaching for 9 months now and I’ve never used WiFi! Because I have unlimited data, I just use my phone hotspot. It should be no problem for you.
I know they will always say that having a tethered internet connection is better, but as long as you have a good signal and a problem free hotspot, you’ll be fine.
The demo includes both the demo class and the interview. When I did it, I did my demo class first and then we had a short interview afterwards talking about the demo, pay, and any other questions I had about the process. They will also inform you of the next steps. You can ask all your questions at that point.
My advice for you is to follow their advice for the demo. They want you to use TPR and props. This is very important for the demo class. I went all out for the demo and then once you are hired, it’s your classroom so you can choose how you teach and what you use yourself (I rarely use props now). But they will score you on what you use for the demo class.
Can I ask how it is going with etalking ? they offered me a position and I’m wondering what they are like to work for but I can’t seem to find info on them
