Best Taiwan Presidential Candidate for Foreigners and/or NWOHRs in Taiwan?

I think that not all Chinese are enemy aliens simply because they were born in China. I do think that immigration from China does pose significant risks though especially in terms of espionage and national defense. That’s why I think the bulk of restrictions should occur prior to entry.

By the way, the government hasn’t always treated all Chinese equally either. For exchange students and degree seekers for example there are very strict and disproportionate rules that apply exclusively to Chinese students.

For Chinese spouses there are also unique rules to residency that apply exclusively to Chinese born spouses which are often imported through matchmaking brokers.

Many extra rules applied to Chinese foreigners are not just based on very real national security risks but also because China would bash us with their ego stick if we ever decided to call them a proper foreign country and treat them fairly like all other foreign countries. That should be obvious enough and very telling of the pettiness of the Chinese nation.

Everyone agrees, not everybody. It would be amazing if the Chinese people could also rise up against their governemnt. For now, Taiwan faces an actual existential threat from China. Sorry, this might mean your student visas are harder. It’s a really hard situation for Taiwan. If we had full International support, all these retarded games aimed at appeasing China’s aggressive ego wouldn’t be necessary. However, here we are.

CKMT still be loving the communist China. Anyone gotten their election stack of newspapers. It is fucking disgusting!!!

Just to add another. Increased length of ARC extension for International Students who graduate from local universities. Not sure if I’m remembering correctly but I think before it was only a 1 month extension and was extended to 3 months.

I think the change to 3 months might have been during Ma’s administration but it was quite a while ago so I might be remembering wrong. During Tsai’s term it was further extended to 6 months/end of the year after graduation and currently it’s a full 1 year extension.

Also added online application for renewal of ARC for international students a few years ago too.

This is what I mean… calling for the creation of a parliament in TW. WTF is he blubbering about??? TW already has a semi-presidential system a bit similar to France, the president is not the head of the executive, that’s the Premier and the Parliament can already very much stifle any executive initiative by blocking bills (as it happened already with LY of a different colour than the president).

Egocentric moron, hate him so much.

China is an enemy territory to Taiwan. Those with citizenship in that territory are thus defined as enemy aliens, even if individuals may range from friendly to hostile.

Yeah, and the Ma Government spent almost their entire time focusing on these people while ignoring us.

Which is the best 3 presidential candidates that might help to all (NWOHR) and easily to create a friendly and equal rights for (NWOHR)?

I would say the best 3 are the 3 who are running, in no particular order.

There are three candidates this time, so I am not sure what you are asking.

I hear what your saying that’s why I prefaced my comment with milestones that have directly affected “my life”.

2016 was a DPP year. The government was elected in January.

Introduction of dual citizenship to high level professionals.

Elimination of requirement to renounce and become stateless before application.

Pathway for children born to two foreigners to stay in Taiwan after they turn 18 to an APRC.

That is in addition to @DogmaticStoic’s points.

That’s a funny comment. If you wanted to tell somebody that they were selfish and that you were a better person than them, this might be one way of saying that. But I’m 100% sure that you would never make a backhanded comment like that. Thus, I will not be offended.

It’s good that gays in our community can get married. Who opposes that? It had broad support from all political parties. Congratulations to them. I’m all for the pursuit of happiness wherever or whomever you may be. But don’t you think it would be much nicer if we could all celebrate everyone’s progress together?

Other administrations, both DPP and KMT were able to walk and chew gum at the same time? All of them have made significant policy changes that have benefitted the long-term foreign community here. Only this one has done nothing for those of us that have been giving our support to Taiwan for so many years. A lot of people in our community have been raising families and have made significant contributions to Taiwan’s development. But when one asks why this administration has done nothing for them, the reply is “oh, but the plumb card, students can work”, blah blah blah.

But of course. How could i forget? We can all celebrate that great new APRC card number that we got. Whoopee!

Yeah. For every one policy change the KMT has done, the DPP has five that has benefited foreigners. Is it enough? No. But it is no contest.

This statement was already disproven above.

Not one person on this forum agrees this was a net positive.

One thing that is very important to remember. Good and better are absolutely different terms with different definitions. The CKMT has done less than the DPP. Neither have done exceptionally well in any way shape or form. Only “better”.

If they have they got exempted from renunciation for significant contribution.
I remained a mere mortal, barely registering on anyone’s radar. How many immigrants have really made a significant contribution to Taiwan?

Of those people who have applied for citizenship without renunciation, 281 have been approved by the MOI in the past six years, including 28 last year.

That’s hardly an overwhelming number. But I definitely fall into the category of “mere mortal” yet made it through, so I encourage people to try.

Tyr try try… sounds like a plan if you made a significant contribution. Not sure what that criteria is.

Loads! People just have different opinions on what is important. In the Taiwan sense of gaining citizenship based on contribution, it does seem to be more fame and press that is important. Not to take away from the work those that got it did. But many more are ignored because they didn’t get enough likes. In this sense, I think there are MANY that significantly contribute to Taiwan and are not granted such stature.
