Hey, so I tried to access some of these recently, not really into betting on politics, or whatever else is on there, but more so curious to see what the stats are on some of these elections and other stuff… but these sites are apparently blocked now by the government in Taiwan because there is betting on elections happening. Personally, I don’t want to bet on any elections anywhere (including Taiwan) especially if that involves China getting its greasy mitts on Taiwan and its democratic elections. But I’m not able to access these to get the stats and also because Kalshi is tied to Coinbase, Coinbase is also not available and I haven’t been able to access that either. Anyone else having this problem? Solution would be to just get a VPN and wait for the election to be over?
Those platforms violate Taiwanese laws.
VPN doesn’t really protect anyone. If funds ever passed through a compliant Taiwanese exchange like MAX or BitoPro, the KYC data those exchanges are legally required to keep gives prosecutors the bettor’s real identity. The case that led to the first 2026 indictment involved a bet of 742.96 USDC, about NT$23,457.
Hence people in Taiwan could be violating the law by simply using those sites, I am going to close the topic. The coming up elections are the reason for the crackdown.
