Bilingual school for 17yo

Hi, we are moving to Taiwan this year and we are looking for a bilingual senior high in Taipei for my 17yo. The aim is to prepare her for university not just in Taiwan but also outside of Taiwan. We are looking at Kang Chiao, Fuhsing, Wego, which we understand are private schools - any thoughts ? I read on this forum that public schools are also now offering bilingual courses but not sure if they would accept foreigners. We are effectively bilingual but not used to Chinese being the medium for school subjects such as Math and Science. Appreciate if you could share your thoughts! Thank you.

I am a high school teacher for one of those bilingual public schools you mentioned. We do accept foreign students, and have a special class designed for students who don’t speak Chinese as a first language, but unfortunately we only accept students entering at HS Grade 1- that’s 10th Grade in the American system. As far as I know, that’s pretty standard for all public schools who have this program.

For your daughter, looking into a private school like Kang Chiao might be best. They’ll also be able to help her with college applications.

I know you said bilingual but, you can look at vis which is newer. It’s full immersion instead of bilingual. It’s also pretty expensive like those schools you mentioned.

Just thinking out aloud here … 17 means “almost finished high school and preparing to go to college”.

Seems to be the wrong time to move overseas to a country that doesn’t use English (not well at least) and you don’t even know which school he/she will attend.

The test, of course, is written completely in Chinese. Even subjects that have nothing directly to do with the language still use it to ask questions and give instructions. This is proving to be a nearly impossible challenge for him.

I’ve done research and found that he doesn’t qualify for entrance as a foreign student despite having an American passport because he’s attended high school here (in English). He also doesn’t qualify as a 僑生 for the same reason.
