Blackout in Spain and Portugal

The reason is still unknown…

Quite interesting, since I don’t remember such huge blackout at all.

Pedro Sanchez is currently hosting an “extraordinary” meeting of Spain’s national security council, the prime minister’s press office says in a statement on social media.

“Rare atmospheric phenomenon” is being mentioned.

You know, I was thinking more like the solar flares. Those could take down a power grid that large.

Parts of Andorra and France affected too, as per BBC.

And this is why we must include some cash in our emergency kit, aside from batteries and other power sources. And some cash.

I thought it was solar flares but they seem to indicate it’s not?

Many areas and people still without electricity, including most of my family and friends.

This is the kind of news that you wouldn’t believe they were even possible.

No confirmed cause yet.

Oh?

I guessed this might the reason. Apparently the UK came pretty close during the winter.

Better we learn this is Spain rather than in an important country. :grimacing:

As I said, no confirmed cause yet.

I’m sure it’s just a squirrel.

Yes. The renewables like wind weren’t cutting it. Very nice when it’s windy but you can’t exactly control the weather when you need more energy. But the real issue I read was the UK doesn’t have good infrastructure for energy storage.

I have fond memories of the UK blackouts back in the 70s.

I had a few blackouts in my 20s.

Looks like folks are taking it in stride.

…and some people wanna cashless society

No riots, no lootings, no assault rifle paranoia.

Unlike in some other important country.

Yes. Like a financial hub that would impact a dozen other countries.

Now we know who did it

It was only 12 hours, let’s see what happens when it is longer.

Madrid is back on.
