British Bacon - Anywhere sell it here?

I miss the taste of home. Anyone know anywhere that sells uncooked back bacon?

I’d also be happy with Canadian bacon or similar.

I got some at Carrefour a few weeks ago, good price and quality. Not peameal/Canadian, but baby had back

Never seen it, but you can buy exactly the same cut, thinly sliced, uncured, as hotpot meat. It’s pathetically easy to cure it yourself, and because it’s not full of phosphates and water it cooks better.

Churchill’s?

They’ve still got a freezer in the Zhishan Carrefour. Newish shop somewhere up in Tianmu.

That Churchhills stuff is very tasty. NTD270 for pork shoulder.

Their British sausages are good. Don’t know if they’re authentically British, but I like them.

Not tried their Spanish or German sausages.

Not sure if you would buy this which I bought from Costco today

Only got German and Thai in my Carrefor. German is good. Avoid Thai if you’ve ever eaten the real thing (Issan curry sausage)

As I remember, the bacon in that fridge isn’t Churchill’s, it’s some other guy. But I like it.

I also like the Churchill’s Italian sausages.

They typically have two types of bacon, streaky and proper bacon. The proper stuff is imported AFAIK.

True. I never thought of them as trying to mimic Isaan-style sausages actually, and if that was the intent they’re quite a way off. I just understood the “Thai-style” as meaning “contains a bit of chili”.

Yeah, I think the descriptors are just some indication of flavour rather than an attempt to replicate a national dish - if I’m wrong then they’ve failed miserably!

I find the ones decribed as British to be fairly flavorless, perhaps I just got a bad batch, to me the German or even Italian style seems closer to a British sausage.

They have vegetarian British bacon in PX mart.

It’s indistinguishable from the regular Taiwanese meat based bacon. I think they had Biffa and the rest of the bacons renounce their nationality - and taxonomic kingdoms - and then re-naturalise. Quality is good. It compliments the danbing very nicely! yum yum

Maybe try going Swiss. Their products are very good.

There’s some fantastic replies here that easily look like they’ll satisfy my bacon craving. Was just asking on the off-chance and thought I’d be pissing in the wind, great to see I can actually get hold of decent bacon here! Thanks everyone

Awesome I knew Churchills did decent sausages but had no idea about the bacon. Will head there tomorrow. Will give Carrefour a go too and compare.

Vegetarian British bacon from PX Mart sounds more than a bit unsatisfying tbh…

I’m having a hard time seeing that as the positive review you seem to be presenting it as. :grimacing:

I’ve bought most of them at some point or another, but I usually favor the chicken ones and the “German-style bratwurst”. I prefer the ones that come in packs of eight rather than six, and I’m not particularly a fan of the big chunks of fat that are often present in pork sausages (in general I mean, it’s not specific to Churchill’s). The chicken kievs are pretty decent too — I usually buy a pack of those to stick in the freezer for when I can’t be bothered cooking.

Do they still do them? I used to be able to get them in RT Mart then they moved to the large size and now they have none…I’ve only seen the large size in Carrefour, I vaguely remember asking about them and being told the small ones were the catering size, my memory could be completely wrong though!

Have been meaning to pick up a pack or two for emergencies!

They’re all listed below. Some of them come in packs of six and others eight. The chicken ones are a bit thinner but otherwise it seems kind of arbitrary. I assume they’re just trying to keep a consistent profit margin based on the ingredients (because the prices per pack are all the same or thereabouts, I think).

I rarely go to the Zhishan Carrefour, but I visited the new Tianmu store a couple of months back and stocked up (while they were doing the buy two get one free offer).
