Bugs going around this summer 2016 - TB, measles, Zika

Aside from TB -always popular-, enterovirus and other assorted bugs:

Measles

Taipei, Aug. 3 (CNA) Two cases of measles infection have been confirmed to have originated from a domestic departure area at Taipei Songshan Airport, and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) urged the public Wednesday to be on alert if they have traveled to places where either of the two patients have visited between July 26 and Aug. 1.

A 42-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were confirmed to have contracted measles Aug. 1, and their specimen tests suggest that the cases are a cluster infection, the CDC said.

Follow-up investigations show that 328 people have since been in contact with the two measles patients, with one of the women’s co-workers having been infected July 31 and is now recovering at home.

Sixteen of the 328 people remained free of symptoms while 311 others are being watched for any signs of infection. The tracking will continue until Aug. 12.

The 42-year-old drives to work and has not traveled much since then, but the 25-year-old takes public transport to and from work. The CDC advised people taking the MRT between the Nangang Exhibition Halls and Songshan Airport, and those who have taken the No. 620 and No. 270 buses to monitor their health.

Zika

Taipei, Aug. 4 (CNA) Taiwan has confirmed its fourth imported case of Zika virus infection, involving a 43-year-old Taiwanese woman who appears to have contracted the disease in the Caribbean, the country’s Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said Thursday.

It is the first confirmed case of Zika infection involving a Taiwanese national.

I really hope it doesn’t like last year’s dengue cases, especially with Zika.
Taiwan already have a low birth rate and such disease could reduce it even more.

Hopefully the relatively cold winter has kept Aedes mosquito numbers down this year.

I caught dengue last year in the Philippines, and repeat infections are not a good idea… Higher risk of it turning to the hemorrhagic kind which is often fatal without blood transfusions, etc. Nope. Do not want.

The increasing number of measles infections worldwide is largely thanks to the anti-vax movement. Hopefully, we’re past that now. Anyway, individuals who have never had measles ought to consider getting vaccinated.

Unfortunately, there is not a vaccination for every nasty disease out there.

3 Facts here. Measles can be passed on by those vaccinated. Vaccinations are clearly not the solution.

Zika is not the real cause of microcephaly (hint: pesticides). Argentinian doctors want the foggings to be stopped.

Dengue case increase is due to over-killing mosquitoes.

That is some weapons-grade balonium right there.
