Does anyone know of a bus that runs from Taipei airport to Taichung City? A friend of mine will be coming to Taiwan and needs to get to Taichung City. Unfortunately I won’t be able to meet her in Taipei as I will be working. I have been told there are buses from the airport that go directly to Taichung. I would like to know the name and cost of the ticket. If you know where they arrive in Taichung City that would be great also.
A number of bus companies run this route. The ticket office and bus stops are right on the side of the airport terminal (can’t remember which terminal; maybe somebody can help). I think Guoguanghao, Free Go (Feigou) and one or two other companies are there. Buses into Taichung go to one of two destinations. One is Chaoma, on the west side of town, on Zhonggang Road, close to the no.3 freeway. The other is the train station. I can’t remember but I think the buses from the airport may stop at both these places.
I have done the trip a number of times and usually go on the “Fee Go” buses. The buses are easily recognisable cos they have very big spotted dalmatian dogs stuck on the side. The counter is pretty easy to find at the airport but it depends on which terminal you arrive at. If your friend arrives at the old terminal you just have to walk through customs then turn left and walk about 40 or 50m meters and you should see the “Fee Go” counter. As Joesax mentioned before the bus shops at Chaoma or “Chow Mar” whichever way makes it easier to pronounce if you don’t speak Chinese. “Chow Mar” is near Feng Jia university not too far past Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department store. I think it also stops somewhere near Sogo and the Slendor Hotel but I am not exactly sure because I always get of at “Chow Mar”. The cost is about 250NT one way.
