I’ve been looking for a car for a better part of a month now, and have never seen so many shysters, bondo laden, mechanically inferior crap cars and dirty deals in my life.
It’s like buying a used car in the US 30years ago, except here they actually expect you to buy their bullshit.

Now you know why I just stumped up and bought a new one.

Depends on what you looking for…there are still some good ones out there, one basically gets what one pay for. My original budget was half of the final purchase price.

What are you looking for?
Well, something in this genre.
1999-2000 Lexus GS 300
Same years in The Rx 300 Lexus crossover
Even consider the big ass LS400 if I can find a clean one…Comfy, with 300bhp V8!
735i or 735iL BMW around the same age.
Tax/mileage secondary…I like displacement and don’t mind the extra fuel tax for something interesting. Nothing of domestic manufacture or under 6 cylinders.

Budget is 250-400k.
Not the standard car search here I admit…
Quite a nice list there. For 380K I would recommend a Range Rover 4.6HSE very nice condition. Lexus IMHO abit bland and you might get bored with it really quickly or fall asleep whilst driving it…its functional like the 7 series but doesnt excite.
Mike, I think you need to kick open a ‘buy MJB a car’ thread. Too much fun.
Is this a replacement for the Rodeo, or an addition to?
Replacement …The Rodeo is running perfectly, in fact is in better condition than every used car I’ve looked at so far, which is a tad frustrating. But, I’m not using it in the manner in which it was built to be used, and I’ve found a good recipient who will give her a proper thrashing when required. I’ve driven it for 10+ years now, and am confident enough in it’s mechanical state to sell it to anyone. It still has not one rattle or squeak.
Looking for a larger upscale sedan, with some displacement, comfort, room for 5 and panache (room in the boot for scuba gear is a must however). I like the Lexus for reliability and comfort, and the 735iL just for the style…I love that car. I don’t mind the extra tax, and will increasingly be carrying customers to and fro.
I test drove a friends fathers 1998 Lexus LS400 a few weeks ago, and man, what a ride. 240,000km and couldn’t even hear the engine running from outside the car. A big, luxury boat…A little soft in the suspension but very, very comfortable. I could live with that.
Laugh. But try that 2.5 turbo-5 some day. Might change your mind about needing 6 cylinders… Lower the biatch, some rims… can run fast and haul a lot of gear…
Then again, next year will see a Subaru Legacy GT wagon with a 265ps turbo four with torque to match for 1.5m. Hard to beat. Or, the new Outback wagon with 3.6 flat-six. Ground clearance, cargo space, torque, AWD…
gs300 is an awesome car, takes off with wheels spinning and a snap on your neck, doesnt drink too much fuel considering its size, its silent, comftable… just try finding an unf*cked one
Please help him find a car. I can’t wait to go jumping dunes on the beach with his truck. Ha ha ha
Mike stay away from Benz. I have tried 2 this week and they are crap. Two S500 and they drove like a 1988 cadilac that have never being serviced ( or a 2 year old Range Rover). Ha ha ha.
I really think that you should look at an Audi A4/ S4. Not so spacious but a good and fun car to drive. 2L turbo is what you need in Taiwan.
PS: You should have specified that you are looking for a corporate car but with some fun driving it. It would stop people telling you to buy a Lotus (2 seater).
I think the grammar in that sentence should be more like: A Range Rover 4.6HSE in very nice condition? Well blow my woolly socks off!
Stick with a Pajero if you ask me!
Haha its always such a scary prospect to post in this forum with so many buxiban teachers around Yes my engrish is in decline from all those autospells in browsers, msn, skype etc etc…thanks for the correction.
I like Pajeros, they seem very comfy but the prices that most are asking for for a almost 10 year old is like 400-500K :loco: ave mileage 100-120k. After the last Pajero you checked for me, I decided if I ever wanted to buy a Pajero, I would start saving up for a new one

I just sold my V70R, really quick for a wagon, awful truck like turning radius though with those 18" rims. Saw one for sale awhile ago in Taiwan, coupled with 4WD…luv it!

Rodeos seem quite happy plugging away in deep sand. PM me if you want a dune bashing partner or GPS coordinates for some of the better spots in northern Taiwan.
