I’ve been in Taiwan for two years now with an electric scooter, and am thinking of getting a 125cc-250cc motorcycle. Mostly looking for retro style (SYM Wild Wolf, Hartford Clouded Leopard, Yamaha FZ-X). Because I am not really someone who knows a lot about motorcycle maintenance, I was thinking I should probably go to a dealership to get a used motorcycle due to the ability to check reputation and get a warranty.
Is that the best course of action? Any other recommended models?
I did my research and ended up with a Wolf. They are cheap and easy to have in Taiwan, basically any mechanic can fix any problem and the parts are easily available for cheap. Design and quality is essentially Honda tech from the 70s, reliable.
The Hartford bikes have a bad reputation, Yamaha might be more expensive and more wait time if you need parts.
There’s a Taiwan Motorcycle Group on Facebook which is really good. They might recommend a good dealer in your area. I’ve read on Forumosa that second hand dealers can be dodgy, but both my bikes have been second hand from dealers (via Facebook Marketplace) and there have been no problems. You can read up a bit online about what to look for when getting a used bike.
Easiest thing would be to find a foreigner who is leaving the country and trying to offload their ride. That Facebook group is a good place to check…
