Buying an illegal big bike, yeh or neh

Hmmm, well I have a great Taiwanese friend, also my neighbor who owns a 2001 Suzuki GSR 750cc. He has owned it for awhile, and he bought it from his friend. It is illegal, as it came from Japan in parts and was put back together. It actually has the GSR 1000cc stock front brakes and suspension on it too. It has a fake yellow plate on it. It runs great and it has never been driven too hard. I can get it for $30,000nt. I live in Chongli, so the fake plate thing here is fine, but if I am in other cities, especially Taipei I know I could get the bike taken from me. What do you guys think?

Can you get fake red plates yet? Has anyone heard of someone turning an illegal bike into a legal bike? Like paying someone under the table? Anyway it is just a great price, but it is still illegal. Opinions???

well for what i know, if they catch you and you don’t come with a good story or they just want to fuck you, you could go to jail or get kicked out of the country… if you want a yellow plate bike, today they are very cheap… u can get a CB400 for 100k or something like that, a friend of mine is selling his i think for 110k or 100k… if u want it let me know on this forum… anyway… i would not advice u to get it unless u take it to a track and leave it there just for fun sometimes…

The fake plate idea is getting old now. although it may sound like a deal at 30K, remember that the bike was disassembled and rebuilt once, and that the “real” reason why and where it came from Japan in pieces may not be too kosher. So, there’s not much chance to get away with these fakes anymore. I wouldn’t risk it.

Just save up and buy a fully legal bike. Sure it’s more than 30K, but a properly plated bike will take away all the stress of riding in paranoia, and the possibility of having a shit storm with the cops.

Cheers

I remember an article in one of the papers some tme back where they interviewed foreigners in the prison come deportation centre, or whatever it is, in Taoyuan. There was one chap that did exactly what you are thinking of. If I remember correctly, he’d been in jail for two years waiting on deportation.

Ok, thanks. I am not going to touch it then. Not worth it. Besides I have a great NSR that I have modded through the years. And it is completley legal. Thanks for the advice.

I’m pretty sure you don’t wind up in jail over something like that. I’ve asked about it a number of times and everyone has told me worst case is that they jack your bike and you never see it again. My old mechanic had that happen to him. Anyways I would definately stay off the highways or try to get a fake red plate. I heard they are getting more strict with those. I did talk to someone once in kending who had been running an illegal bike for more than a year. He even said he had been stopped before and the cops let him off the hook.

Nah, don’t listen to all those craven chickens here. be brave: steal it from your ‘friend’, no need to pay for his albatross.

then stroke it, bore it, port it and balance it. rip off the stock pipe and put a three-inch straight-through system on it, grab some slick tyres, throw away most of the bodywork and lights, and THEN ride it to work every morning.

like a real rebel.

or not.

It’s a gamble. I had a friend with a bogus CB400. I borrowed it for a month and wow, it’s not a good feeling. All I thought about was cops. I couldn’t live like that. It wasn’t even that fast and felt like a noodle in the corners.

I dogged this topic to attrition months ago, or so I thought.
The upshot was "they " “just” confiscate your bike.

“for a month” - where. how often, how much, how hard and fast?

Nantao, everyday, free, as hard as it would go, and WOT.
