Hi, I’m wondering if I can just walk into a retail bank (not a securities company) and purchase ETF’s here in Taiwan?
Also, will be doing this as a dual citizen (my wife actually, but she hasn’t been living in Taiwan for a long time, hence unfamiliar with how it works) and I’m wondering if buying / selling ETF’s in Taiwan will create tax implications for her with the Taiwanese government? For example, a need to file taxes at year end or something else?
Does the securities division (company) of the retail bank count?
Yes it will.
Pretty sure buying/selling securities in any country will require you to file taxes in that country.
The more important question is whether your home passport country, and/or country of residence will also (double) tax you on the securities income/gain.
Oh sorry I should clarify, the main intent is for us to be able to see our liquid and investment assets within the same app without having to register / log in and out of various apps and platforms. Honestly speaking, it doesn’t matter whether it’s the retail or investment division, as much as whether we can mange everything in a single platform.
The answer is yes. Depends on the specific bank’s app, but usually yes.
Here’s a screenshot from ESun’s iPhone app. TWD checking account, foreign currency checking account, securities balance and positions, etc
