Buying something to put a shack on out of spite

Hey ya’ll it’s the stupidly ambitious foreign student again. So basically like uhh economic and political state of the world market stuff. Idk what I’m even saying but though I’m on student visa, probably never gonna be good enough at Chinese to get the superior arc or whatever and I think I might be autistic or something but I’m really considering just raw dogging housing here. It’s really the only thing keeping me from making this island my number 1 favorite. I mean it’s kinda sad seeing people react so dramatically to like normal bathroom and stuff even though in my head I’m like damn this don’t even cost as much as your weird mosaic obsession bathroom but whatever.

Anyway I’m in Kaohsiung so I thought just buy a residential land that kinda just looks like someone’s backyard. Point though, is no shared wall which is my biggest reason for all this to begin with actually. Many people here are socially inept, again which makes the island so great but not when you have to roll the dice which movie character you’ll have as neighbors especially with the goofy building structure here.

So latest residential land (specifically for building) I saw around Zuoying was for 1.6m NTD. It’s really small but I mean, a simple shout can travel yards anyway. So in urban area we just talking solo insulation instead of how big your land is yea?

Now I’d buy one of those modular cabin/glamping/container/huts/whatever
for around 100k which is already a big stretch since I’ve seen people letting some containers out for only 10k and the rest is up to you to make sure you don’t overheat inside. And finally since shower units here goes from 10k to 25k I guess I’d be spending 100K on really custom shower (no more knee level faucet, ambitious but impractical mosaic, and actually bathroom here are kinda anti human anyway). Apply for water electricity if there isn’t already one, or find rubble houses for sure access to those things. Shouldn’t cost more than 2m NTD in the end.
Now I should be set right? Perfect country to enjoy outside as a huge introvert and a custom hut to come back to recover and repeat.

Actually since I’m studying here for another 2-3 years let’s say I rent and make a deal with one of those old people renting out their rubbles for like 3000ntd per month and put my stuff on there which should have the initial cost of (going more low budget here) 20k for the container, 10k for the shower unit, 10k for everything else that could happen and additional cost for custom height adjustments of things.

That would make my cost of temporary housing here less than 5000 per month while having something you’d have to travel to hengchun to stay at for like 2000 per night. Seems so much better to me than upping my budget to 16000 a month to live in one of those newer buildings with pretty good insulation but still if you got the jackpot then you really be like that until your contract ends. My tuition is like 70k per sem so it doesn’t feel so great to spend that much on something I don’t even like but just kinda have to for the sake of thicker walls.

Anyway guyss what could go wrong? What WILL go wrong? If something does go wrong can goofy facebook cry for help solve the problem like everything else here? I’m really learning from the locals, I mean… I’m not even supposed to be here cuz I didn’t pass one of visa regulation but they so chill they granted me it anyway and I know most of them middle aged blue collars at the Taiwan embassy back at my country wouldn’t even get here if they seem a bit unready on the docs.
Really though I seem to be getting away with a lot of things here that I won’t talk about but also prob cuz I let people get away with serious stuff aswell.

Oh btw some guy just bought a parking lot and put severla rusty containers on them and rent each out for 12k per month and no one seems to care, if they do though like some nosy auntie reporting to the police what could go wrong?

Sorry… is there any legal question in your two posts?

Yes, like how can I get in trouble from this and if it will actually be this easy. The paperwork trouble and such.

As a general observation, it’s usually not a good idea as a foreigner to copy questionable practices by Taiwanese people. There could be all kinds of reasons this guy can get away with it and you can’t. He may be from a local family who has been there for generations with political connections. Perhaps he has several cousins who everyone in the area knows operate on the wrong side of the law so people will be afraid to mess with him. Context is very important.

Typical examples of foreigners running into problems with this are opening a business in a building not zoned for that purpose because several Taiwanese are operating businesses out of similar building nearby. Or buying land in a rural area and trying to build a house on it because there are McMansions in the area on rice paddies. This is the road to financial ruin and much grief.

Plus another 5000 or more in electricity bills to run aircon in your container.

Many things not least of which is not having an address for your ARC and getting kicked out of your shack when one of the neighbours complains.

After reading that first post I feel a migraine coming on.

Why do I have a vision of guy with a Taiwan tattoo on his visage?

Why not just get a large commercial van and convert it into a stealth camper van… or a box truck. Then if a nosey aunty complains… you can readily move it.

Much better idea.

The best idea would be to just live nextdoor to other humans.. and invest in some noise cancelling headphones.

Air conditioning. You NEED air conditioning. It is non negotiable.

Oh and plumbing. That too.

Just need a hand fan and wet wipes… and a gym membership so you can have a shower.

Hey, don’t do @afterspivak dirty like that!

Still will need an address either way for arc purposes, no?

I suppose the container shack fixes that issue, as you can just route it to the address of the backyard you live in.

This is not to say it isn’t a daft idea, just that it has a fraction of practicality.

There’s this person renting out a rubble for 1500 per month. Interestingly they gotta mention “can put container” [車位]前鎮凱旋跳蚤市場瑞賢街31巷獨立車位不綁約, - 591租屋網.

I mean, for such location why wouldn’t they put something on it themselves. Maybe modular house and charge up to 15k per month or something?

People have been fined 60K a month for having illegal container houses on land not zoned for home use. Putting structures on farmland is illegal and cracked down on nowadays.
