You want to come here specifically to coach kids? A paid position? I’d say you’ve absolutely NO chance whatsoever.
However, I’m friends with Andy “the Sieve” who plays or played goal for the B52s and I know he used to do Saturday morning coaching for the kids at Taipei European School. You’d need a different way to earn a living, though.
na I don’t speak any Chinese yet. but i could try to learn.
so there isnt any jobs in soccer coaching ? i thought they would want to learn in english
anyway thanks for the reply[/quote]
That seems like a good idea, if you could get a partner and start it without losing it to otehr copycats.
Taiwanese in general are not that into sports -especially for children, teenager are into basketball nowadays- and soccer is not well known here. Furthermore, there are few venues. But as you sid, learning a sportt in English would be a nice niche market, especially for summer, but I am afraid that it will be pretty small.
But why? Surely the most common language in football these days would be Spanish or something? I mean, Britain’s hardly the center of the universe for the beautiful game!
I at least used to see in-line skating being taught in English by foreigners, so the two-skills-for-the-price-of-one approach of English and exercise/sport has been used here. But I wouldn’t bet on such jobs being legal. And, at any rate, they almost certainly don’t exist for soccer.
Why, in particular, do you want to coach football in Taiwan? The facilities are crap and there just isn’t that much interest. You’d have far better options in countries that have a football infrastucture, like S Korea, Japan, Thailand and even China.
My first summer here my ex and I started a summer camp teaching children baseball amongst other sports and it was a big hit. We had over 30 students sign up and we simply used the local elementary schools outdoor area for classes everyday.
I must be honest it was the only time I really taught and it was lots of fun. Plus the children picked up on the English usage at a surprising pace. I was going to do it again, but never got around to doing it again.
MFA was the one I’ve heard of, as well. There are foreigners in all kinds of sports/activity based professions here, from ice hockey to adventure touring. If you are that keen about football, you could easily set up a “camp” or “school”. And a lot of parents do like the double benefit of their children getting sports and foreign language at the same time.
