Can use Taiwanese bank card in Chinese ATMs?

Hi. I’m heading to Beijing for a brief sojourn next month. Due to the general dislike/mistrust that exists between both sides of the Taiwan Straits, has anybody had any problems using their Taiwanese bank cards over there? I have been told by my bank I can use my card overseas, (although I didn’t specificially ask about China). My card has the visa logo on it, so I don’t see any reason I won’t be able to use it.

Supposedly yes. I’ve never gotten it to work but Taiwanese forums say that if you have a PLUS card, use the 4-digit magnetic strip PIN (not the six digit one you use in Taiwan) and make sure that your bank has authorized overseas withdrawals (they are not authorized by default), you can make withdrawals in China. The maximum is limited by Chinese bankking regs and are lower than what Taiwan allows.

What Feiren says. And it will most probably not work with any ATM, but it should work at least with the Bank of China ones.

I have used mine to withdraw RMB in Fuyong ferry terminal in Shenzhen. It was some Hong Kong bank’s ATM I think. Had to use the 4 digit PIN as for all withdrawals outside Taiwan.
