Canadian Elections

– But the standards of Kyoto are not applied to all countries. It is bad legislation. You would have us adopt sub-standard legislation to ensure future competitiveness and a clean environment. What if that legislation puts thousands out of work, stifles competitiveness, and does nothing about emissions is emerging countries? You say you voted for a change? The only parties that support Kyoto are the Bloc, the NDP, and the Liberals. Heheheheh. Some change.
Never mentioned who I voted for. But I might add that I think our federal political structure is nonsense. Forcing ppl to marginalize the election into one of party lines and then vote for said party, instead of voting for the candidate in your riding who best represents your views and stance on issues is ridiculous. Not being able to vote for the leader of the nation is a huge handicap on this democracy. I’m telling you this to show that I do have issues with government, but I want to fix them, not ixnay it all and lose many benefits.

As for Kyoto; the hard choices are hard for those very reasons you outlined. I’d rather live in a place with a slightly depressed economy than a toxic waste dump. The next generation will thank us. Kyoto isn’t perfect, it has some faults I agree. But what does it matter if not every country in the world accepts it? Let them destroy their country, they’ll catch on eventually. And better to do something rather than do nothing while waiting for the “perfect” solution like the States. And yes, I’m totally aware of the huge whole in this argument, I know that if the States (the biggest contributor) doesn’t change most of Eastern Canada will be laided to waste anyways, but perhaps I’m optimistic that we can lead by example and they’ll follow soon after. And Kyoto would have been no problem to implement if we had been backtracking for the past 5-10 years on the issues (think Hydro One - or whatever its new name is).
but overall, Canadians do not market themselves as well as their American and European friends. Why? I would argue it is because the socialist environment in Canada even makes a majority of the capitalist

I sure hope Canada starts spending more money on the military and not second hand shitty equipment from the Brits. They just bought this sub!!! What an embarrassment for military people in Ottawa. I hope more of these things happen, so the world knows how Canada neglects it own armed forces :smiling_imp:

Canada’s Liberal government prides itself on supporting democratic values and human rights. Is this what a Canadian company should be doing in China? And how are Nortel’s activities in China consistent with Foreign Affairs Canada’s claim that, " Canada remains very concerned about the human rights situation in China "? It also begs the more important question: what is the Canadian government doing about this?

Canada’s government supposedly stands for for human rights and democratic values. To date, the Liberal government’s approach to China has been based on the belief that, "

Yeah lets have more fires and death on submarines.

What an asshole you are. :fume:

That would be deaths that were caused by our government

How truly mature :notworthy: :notworthy: :loco:

Mucha Boy,

How could this be interpreted as glee? I am just saying I hope more negative things happen so the world can see how the government has put the lives of our men and women in uniform in danger every day. U over-reacted as usual. :unamused:

But since Ottawa is in charge of the military, we will probably have some two-bit investigation and release some useless

Mucha (Muzha) Boy,

Oh for fuck’s sake, this is like arguing with Vannyel. The glee comes from the icon you chose. Perhaps you aren’t visually sensitive enough but the way it reads is that you are twistedly happy about the incident.

In any case, I would be outraged with you even without the icon. You’re hoping for horrible events to happen, though now you are mincing words. Negative things? How about deadly? You are saying you hope more deadly or potentially deadly situations happen to our military to underscore your beliefs that it needs serious overhauling. These are not the words of a humane or decent man.

Why you call me Mucha boy is odd since it is a young man’s inexperience and crassness that allows him to promote abstract policies over the life.

Your wishes are reprehensible, Chewie. Just admit you were carried away and let this issue die.

In any case, I have had enough. You may argue with yourself now if you like which may be more to your liking seeing as people don’t matter as much to you as ideas.

I do not always agree with Chewy but fail to see that he is being unreasonable here. I think that he is underlining that the government in Ottawa is often, well, just like the United Nations or EU. This is causing very serious problems and he hopes that more negative attention is given to this. I do not see that he has said he is hoping bad things happen and that people die. The point is that more negative attention needs to be paid to Ottawa’s policies and how they are harming the country.

Just my two cents. Now, I had better run. By the way, where is Canada anyway…

I can see Chewy;s point of view, he probably doesnt want Canadian soldiers to die ( I hope not, I used to be one, and my brother is one right now), but he wants the public and world to find out about Canada’s Army/Navy/AirForce’s sub-standard equipment.

I would just like to add that although the equipment sucks, Canadian soldiers are very good at their job, you would be surprised what they can do with so little money.

The Military needs more money to do the tasks assigned to them, otherwise the number of tasks required from them needs to be reduced. Maybe cut down on the number of foreign peace keeping missions, reduce the comitment to NATO etc.

CAnada is beside Alaska for those ppl looking for it…

Webdoctor,

You are 100 percent correct. I have tremendous respect for our men and women in uniform. My British grandfather was an RAF pilot, my Canadian GF helped liberate the Netherlands in WW2 – its hurts me to see how the Canadian military has gone down the toilet — in terms of leadership and top military brass.

Canada gets a lot mileage internationally with its so-called peace-keeping. However, the government is EXTREMELY chintzy with respect to salaries and equipment for military people. Lately, they have been very cheap even with peace-keeping funding. In other words, the government uses the women and men for PR and treats them like dirt. I don

Just like to Afghanistan, where the Canadian forces had to catch a plane with the US forces, we can

I was in the Canadian Army during the early ‘80s. At that time the armed forces’ recruituing slogan was It’s more than a job. One could often hear servicemen joking by repeating the slogan and adding it’s a joke!.

Today’s forces are by and large still using all the same equipment they were using 25 years ago. Ok, they dumped the Fabrique National for the M16 and have changed the soldiers’ helmets, but they still use the same Leopard tanks, F18 fighters, trucks, helicopters, etc.

In light of Lt. Saunder’s death, the government is looking more pathetic by the day as they keep trying to defend spending a billion dollars on those rustbuckets. They can’t even articulate why we need them, for Christ’s sake!

The armed forces, like everything else the Liberals touch, is rotten to the core. The common soldier feeds his family with groceries from local food banks while the big brass indulge in extravagances that would make Adrienne Clarkson blush.

Sadly, there’s not one Harry Crerar among the lot.

This could prove to be a very big headache for Prime Minister Paul Martin. In fact, Newfoundland could consider withdrawing from Confederation in the nextfew years. I for one, would love this. Everyone expects Quebec to leave, but Newfoundland? This would put the cards on the table for every province re-evaluating Confederations. My dream

That article is stupid, but I would expect no less from the Sun.

Newfoundland should have its equilization payments reduced since it will be receiving money from offshore energy revenue.

Lets put it dis way, U lose ya job, da gov. gives U money to make sure U can still live -welfare, UI, etc. (lets put aside whether U agree with socialism or not), ok everything snds legit. Than later on, (months, years, in this case DECADES) you find a job and can support yourself, should the government still keep paying you as if U had no job? Would U complain dat u wanna keep da money U R making N da extra $$ from da gov.?

Frankly, as a previous Ontario tax payer I am getting tired of paying for other provinces when we (Ontario) also have are own monumental issues -healthcare, homelessness.

If NFld. left, NO ONE would kare.

And it is for precisely these reasons that Confederation could be in trouble. Ottawa has always expected trouble from Quebec, but now you have the premier of Newfoundland ripping Canada
