i can get the link irrishtu sends me, but i dont think it is google.cn because when i do a search for falun gong on it, many links, positive links, come up, evne the global falun gong website based in NYC which is denied inside China. So i am not sure that link is really google.cn

can you check, Irrishtu?

sandman, can you copy and paste the image of google.cn that you get, the front page at least, here?

Just tried it on the google.cn site and the first one was

I think it’s probably only censored within China or something.

this is what i get from that link above: it allows me to access Falun gong in NYC so it could NOT be the real google.cn that denies access to the FG site in NYC…

Maybe. Can you copy and paste an image or texty images of the front page of what google.cn looks like, not your other link but exactly google.cn?

thanks

Actually, I’ve just checked on the link I gave you and compared to google.cn, it’s completely different.

Aha!

Well, I’m at an email cafe, so the commies wouldn’t even know it’s me, sandman.

As previously mentioned, try going into your cookies and deleting anything related to Google. Then try again.

Don’t be so silly. They have spies everywhere.

A friend inside China, in Harbin, just wrote me… “Just checked with my Taipei pals in Taiwan and they are also getting
redirected to google.com – sounds increasingly weird.”

Something fishy.

He adds:

"Sounds bizzare.
It could be a redirect by Google - if your language preference
settings are for English it may just slide to Google.com, if Chinese
(traditional) Google.com.tw .

It would seem “really” weird for them to
block it (that’s something I could see being badly interpreted on both
sides of the Strait).

Look for a traceroute server over there (
traceroute.org/#Taiwan ) most are at Universities and
aren’t easily accessed from the mainland."

My entire computer is in English. If I type .cn that’s what I get. If I type .tw, .com or .co.uk, that’s what I get. I don’t understand your problem.

I also type in .cn and that’s what appears, in roman letters. but when i type in the full URL, google.com

i better go and have another drink and forget about all this…

I can use the .cn site if I stick to simplified Chinese, but when I try to change it I get redirected to .com.

Not sure if this is a cookie problem or a feature of Google, but I don’t think it’s due to blocking because of the fact that it only happens when I switch from simplified Chinese.

As an interesting aside I got this from a site I read the other day:
Compare
images.google.cn/images?q=tiananmen&hl=zh-CN

google.com/images?q=tiananmen

Taipei Ed writes: “I got google.cn right off and it did not flip. Nor did they bother to block my blog highly critical of Beijing. Insignificant yes, but it shows that they won’t really be able to stop info from getting in.”

But if he really had google.cn, his blog anti China would have been blocked. no?

I’m not sure how to post a screen shot, so I’ll post a link.

I typed in google.cn and http://www.google.com.cn/ is what I got. It’s not the tw site.

Thanks. When I click on that URL, this is what comes up, in about three seconds, every time: google.com/

must be the cookies. and the milk. time for a deep beer!

btw, nice photos, cf!
