i somehow managed to pull the retactable lense cover thingie off and now its fucked.

I went from Tianmu into an area somewhere around Minquan and Songjiang(??) to a Canon repair shop. Sorry, I don’t have the address; but I’ll check tomorrow with my wife, who may remember better.
I didn’t end up getting my camera fixed there because the repair bill would have been greater than the cost of buying a new camera. Grr.
OK, I found it. It’s actually a little south of Nanjing East Road at 20 Jilin Road (a little west of Songjiang). There’s a map and mass-transit directions (in Mandarin) here.

Yep, this is Canon Taiwan (aka. Rainbow)… if you purchased your Canon gear w/ warranty (Gong Shi Huo… sp?), this would be the place to take your stuff (don’t forget to bring your warranty card). This is also where the camera shops bring their Canon warranty repairs (so you could save some time by going direct instead of hassling w/ the shops).
For those interested, they also do maintenance work such as sensor cleaning, calibration, etc. Maintenance work and / or repairs on non-warranty items are ok too, but cost is significantly higher.
Or somewhere to have my Canon EOS350 looked at. Dropped it during the last hour of a 7 day hike (aghhh!!!). Short drop (it fell from an unlocked carry bag when I picked up the bag) but there is a little rattle in the camera body that I’m pretty sure wasn’t there before. Camera still takes pics so I am hoping it is nothing but want to have it examined. Any recommendations?

I stupidly assumed these hours meant daily and went there on Sunday. It looks like the hours on their website aren’t even right anymore.
The hours posted on the doors are currently:
1F store: Mon-Fri 9:00 - 19:00; Sat 9:00 - 17:00; Not open Sun/national holidays
2F repair center: Mon-Fri 9:00 - 18:00; Not open Sat/Sun/national holidays
Well if you got the nerves, open it yourself. If you only dropped it and the lens isn’t damaged, there is a likely possibility that the parts inside are just misaligned and needs a little unscrewing and a bang. You just have to document what you are doing, and make sure not to lose the tiny parts.
Canor repair centers suck anywhere in the world! They would charge repair fee way much more than what you actually paid for when you bought the camera. So I suggest getting an insurance or warranty when buying the first time, or better yet invest in shock proof or water proof cameras.
Had my SO take my camera in for repairs due to a shutter problem. I had the battery in the camera because I wanted her to demonstrate the problem to the technician there.
Upon collection, they didn’t return my battery, saying it’s not part of the items checked in.
Problem was during initial form fill up, the service technician listed battery cover as an item, which my SO assumed was him writing down that the battery was being sent in too. How would she have known a battery cover was a part of the camera that needs to be specified (she’s no camera expert). She threw a fit right there and then, giving them hell but they were of 0 assistance. She told them the battery was there initially, that’s how she showed them the problem. They simply said “but we have test batteries here, why should we need yours.” They basically said no-one sends in cameras with the battery inside. If so, then why didn’t they take out the battery to return during the sending in.
Just a heads-up if you’re planning on servicing your cam there anytime soon. Expect this level of service.
I’m gonna give the manager hell tomorrow.
I took my camera in there for repairing the screen (powershot compact), and gave it to them with the battery inside. I didn’t see them writing anything down on the parts list. I took the SD card out, since I didn’t really feel like showing them all my pictures, though. I got it back with the battery just as I had left it. It may be different since this was a point and shoot with small internal battery and not a DSLR, but I had no problems leaving it with them.
Good for you arima. Unfortunately, I never got back my battery.
They just said they had looked around but couldn’t find it.
Times must be tough now, looks like they need to obtain test batteries by any means…
It’s not about the $$, it’s about their integrity as a SERVICE center. Some service indeed. Oh well, lesson learnt.

Blue Japanese “RuRuBu” sign out front, but nothing for the camera shop itself.
They didn’t speak any English, but they provided quick service at a cheaper rate than quotes from nearby shops ($1500NT - cash only. Fixed in 2 days). Handed me the battery, SD card & hand receipt upon drop-off. Sent me an SMS the next day w/cost estimate & had it fixed the day after that. Works fine now.
I have a Canon XLS1 video camera which needs repairs to the lens mount (a couple of stripped screw threads). Any suggestions as to where I should take it?
I realize this thread is old, but since it is the most useful hit I got when Googling for Canon Service Center in Taiwan, I thought it would be a good idea to update it.
Rainbow in Jilin Road doesn’t do repairs there anymore, the repairs are done at Enjoy Photo - 20 Heping Road, Sec. 1.
Maybe someone can verify this, as I had a lens repaired, so may not be true for compact cameras etc.
As a side note, they charge a “testing fee” of $1800 for Canon products bought outside of Taiwan. (Although my repair came to half the price of Canon US rates even with the testing fee.)
Can any one of you give me a rough estimate of the service charge for the P&S camera in these shops…?
