I read somewhere it’s because cats live in deserts, or at least their ancestors did. So they see you as a bigger cat, and when you are using the toilet, they think you might be in danger of a hippo or a crocodile. I mean cats bury their poop because it’s so they don’t get tracked by some animal who wants to eat Chinese food… and they tend to get really careful about pooping for this reason…

i came home to similar once. not from a cat, but from my new GF’s dog who did not appreciate being left in a new apartment. She also chewed the door jambs to oblivion.
that one is pretty good work for a cat. Must have been annoyed at something…
