Catholic Priest Ministers to Wayward Aussie Youth

There is so much wrong with this video.

A Monsignor at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne confronts some skateboarders.

He accesses the darkest aspects of his soul to relate to the little devils. Think Jesus and gambling in the Temple level of rage here.

Rather disturbing how the priest’s mind ran to the state of the lad’s sensitive bits and why they might be so. Obviously they spurned his earlier advances.

Still I can’t help but think that should Australia want to maintain its manltle as the "clever country, more needs to be done for these kiddies on the slagging front. Or is this the result of PC education? All they could come up with was baldy and four eyes, when the wounding blows could have come from the overt homoerotic content and the church’s sordid history. Bah! No current affairs in school anymore?

HG

I think under the circumstances with all the taunting he gives a reasonable account of himself. He throws in a few school yard racial slurs and highly sexually charged vitriol; all grist for the mill, really. He stands up for himself.

Remarkably whilst he is mouthing off at one kid about how his arse had been tainted by the sperm of whatever some other kid is aping doing exactly that to him. I didn’t see much difference in the mentality of either side on that aspect.

Nearly all Australians are pent up sexually including those teenage or more like twenty something boys.

Of course that whole culture that the priest belongs to is responsible for that weirdness.

That was fun. We used to tease deranged old people in positions of authority like that and only once did anybody ever have a heart attack. There were a couple of other incidents, broken ankles, a visit to the psych ward and such but no biggy. Ahhh, to be young!

You’re a naughty boy bob.

Please god forgive me (for getting caught on camera)!
“The only thing I did see was me being surrounded by these kids and I looked like a kind of a hunted animal being yapped at by jackals and hyenas,” he said.

"All they were doing was provoking me and making it worse and worse.

“I have never in my whole life got as angry as that, never.”

He said he would now have to live with the footage of his outburst being beamed around the world “all the days of my life”.

The language came from the depths of his heart, when something “snapped inside”, he said.

He said the outburst was out of character and he was “utterly embarrassed”, apologising to all who were offended, but not to the teenagers he abused.

“I have the impression that that particular gang of skateboarders, they take a particular delight and joy in reducing people to grovelling measures as I was, that’s their goal, that’s their aim, so I don’t think I owe them an apology as such, I apologise to all who were scandalised by my behaviour.”
HG

Of COURSE it was their aim. Why else would they have a hidden camera with a fisheye lens? Little fuckers. Still, at least it wasn’t the UK – that priest would likely have been chibbed.

Actually, I’d suggest it reveals just how good natured these kiddies are. They didnt once twat him with a skateboard, and I’m quite sure I would have been tempted to.

HG

Nah. They’re anything but good natured. It looks to me like they took a camera and went out looking for someone to goad. They found someone. Just listen to what sounds like the prick holding the camera – he sounds fucking rabid.

Actually, quite a few folks have fallen foul to skate kids wielding vid cameras of late. I think the kids take the cameras to record their often sadly pathetic little stunts, but should they encounter anything worthy, whip them out for a laugh.

A cop was nailed recently in the states for beating up a skater kid, who fortunately enough had a mate filming it all.

Skate kids seem like a decent lot to me, and indeed most of the yoof of Oz a lot more switched on than the hoodish rogues my mates and I were at that age. Sadly I suspect we might have returned and trashed the stained glass windows or something equally mindless.

HG

They’re just a mob, acting pretty predictably and far from admirably. The priest gave a better account of himself than the kids.

Who cares if he swears?

It’s a fight.

They don’t have cops in Oz?

They were jerks. But they won. They got what they wanted and he looked like he wasn’t turning the other cheek. Maybe he’ll gain more spirituality from this and years later wish to thank these kids for helping him out.

Here’s an interesting range of comments from an Australian forum I frequent. The forum is almost entirely atheist, and largely antagonistic to Christianity, but the general feeling was sympathy for the priest and contempt for the ‘sk8rs’.
I can’t say I’m opposed to what I’m seeing.

Those little fuckers were in the wrong and did not move on when asked to.

Good on the priest for standing his ground… Although he might have chosen some more appropriate words.

What a bunch of little fucks.

So did the priest take take the leave or get forced leave?

I think the language couldn’t have been more appropriate for the situation, if he had been friendly about it I can guarantee the little ****s wouldn’t have moved on. The only thing that kept them moving was him more or less chasing them off the property with abuse, good on him!

The old fella got a little bit carried away, but he had close to a dozen kids around him, swearing and abusing him, and threatening him.

I think he did well to stand his ground.

Bunch of absolute little pricks, a shame god didn’t send a lightning bolt down to smite them.

Nothing wrong at all from the priests perspective if you ask me.

They are skateboarding around the church which is ignorant to begin with, the camera person is continually antagonising and screaming abuse in the priest, and then they wonder why he snaps.

He asksed them to leave but this clown and his mates continue to come bcak to drag their mates off and antagonize the priest.

Makes you wonder why they had a camera on them in the first place.

Either way pity the priest didn’t pick up one of the boards and start swinging.

Teach the little dickheads some respect.

They seem smart enough to bait the priest then throw lines like “you can touch us, thats abuse”

If only they used those brains towards better causes… ie STUDYING.

Stupid low lives.

I hope there faces get published so that when they go for jobs later they get fcked over for their past actions.
God bless those posters!

Geez, I’m way out of line on popular opinion on this. In my defence I would argue that it behoves an adult to remain an adult when fronted with childish behaviour. Then again I reckon those lads did alright, all being considered. There’s at least ione of them constantly trying to settle the situation down.

And as for chasing them off church property, as far as I’m concerend the church has no right to try and claim it as private land.

HG

For the most part the people interested in going to church are 80-year olds like my mother.

I don’t think they should have to deal with a bunch of obviously malicious little turds.

That priest is my hero.

They’re using the church steps to do skateboarding stunts. They basically a hazard.

Bah! A weekday by the look of it, no one around. Besides, After blundering through Fitzroy Gardens on a drunken Friday night the bright lights around St Pats prompted some wicked ideas in the mind of my then little lurvely and I ended up consecrating the blue stone of the church with some of my own seed. Biblically speaking, that’s quite possibly a little worse than tick tack off the steps. Mind you it was an unprotected encounter, or the Pope’s Roulette, as it were.

HG

My mom goes to church every day. I’m sure she’d get a fright seeing your heaving arse, but at least you’re not likely to knock her flying.

Those kids were obnoxious and quite threatening. They were looking for trouble but basically got frightened off by a 70 year old man. Their behavior was completely reprehensible. They were just taunting an old bloke. I’m sure if it hadn’t been a priest but some other old person they’d have behaved just the same.

It’s not fun. It’s folly.

wondering why it took a year between the taping and the release on youtube. seems to suggest that someone wanted a payoff to bin it, and that it never came through …
