Oh my god, they’ve gone from two million U.S. dollars to 2 million rupees? $25,000?
I am not happy with this new trend of terrorists kidnapping Canadians.
A little unrelated, but now Al Quaida is claiming to be holding two Canadian diplomats. At least they haven’t threatened to chop off their heads yet.
BAMAKO — A second video of two Canadian diplomats and their driver who were kidnapped in Niger in December has been passed to the Canadian and Malian authorities, a Malian source said Thursday.
The source, who previously revealed the existence of the first video, said he had viewed the tape in which Fowler was seen speaking French.
Earlier this week the same source said that an Algerian leader of Al-Qaeda’s North African branch was holding the two Canadians

I met Fowler in New York more than a decade ago when I was there visiting the UN building with a university team I was a member of (and he was Canada’s ambassador to the UN at the time).Took the time to give us a tour of his office and answered all of our questions. No ego at all and quite softspoken and friendly. Total professional and family man. Bipartisan as well. Workerd for Trudeau, Turner, Mulroney, Chretien etc.

That makes me sad, Chewy, but thanks for sharing. I hope he gets out okay. Is the government doing anything to speed up his release?
Looks like she has until April 5 now, because Harper didn’t cough up enough money.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20090330.wkidnapped30/BNStory/International/home
ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN — The Islamic militants holding a Canadian hostage in the Afghan-Pakistani border region have extended the deadline for their ransom demands to be met, according to an associate of the Taliban commander thought to be in control of her.
“But there will be no more extension in the deadline,” said Qari, a close associate of Taliban commander Gul Bahadur, who asked to be identified by one name only. “They [the Taliban] are serious,” he told The Globe and Mail today.
They don’t sound serious to me. I wonder what will happen if Harper doesn’t pay up, especially since nobody in Canada really seems to care what happens to her. (at least, on the news forums I have read the consensus opinion seems to be the same as here). Maybe they’ll just extend the deadline again and again until the world forgets she ever existed. Sorry but I am feeling pessimistic. I just don’t like sending out the message that the Taliban can snatch Canadians whenever it wants and nobody will care. ![]()
After viewing the fullsome twaddle that is on her website, why should anyone care? Especially those that have folks in Kandahar province? If her supporters, or whatever patron for whom she was supposedly making a documentary, can’t raise enough cash, then why should anyone else?
If one plays with fire, one should expect to get burned.
GingerMan,
Because while I don’t think she made a smart decision, her heart was in the right place. The world is not supposed to behead Canadians with their hearts in the right places.
Maybe they won’t.

Assholes who stone women to death for being outside without a male escort (husband, family member or husband’s family) don’t really care if her heart is in the right place. They choose to believe in an extreme version of the Koran which allows them to commit atrocities on their own people to try and recreate a 7th century society. I’m sorry that you’ve had to come to the realization that there are nasty fuckers in the world. These guys don’t care if she was trying to give them good publicity; they just see her as a payday.

that lady on the left seems to have trouble spelling “butcher”
there was once a nasty website called consumption junction - it had a wide range of gross, violent, humourous, and the scatological. For some reasons, they also showed beheadings from saudi arabia, georgia, etc. Not pretty. I clearly recall one guy who was beheaded with an axe supposedly by fanatics in one of the former soviet republics, and filmed in the woods with his neck stretched out on a stump. The axeman strung, but not cleanly. The head was hanging only by a thin strip of skin. These fanatics seem to be ok being butchers.
Well, looks like they are letting her live. I told you the Taliban would never behead a Canadian. :discodance:
However, hen Beverly finally comes home to Canada, if she doesn’t issue an immediate mea culpa about how she was so wrong about the Taliban being freedom fighters and how they really are the terrorists – not the U.S. and Canadian military who she liked to call “the real terrorists” – then so help me God I hope one of those Canadian kangaroo courts that are always bringing up right-wing bloggers on “hate speech” charges for saying that maybe Islam isn’t so peaceful brings her up on those same charges. Better yet, when was the last time Canada tried someone for treason? Yeah, that would be awesome!
Jihad Unspun A Phoney CIA Website
Written by daily.pk

In February 2008 - Al-Qaeda’s video-man, the American Jewish convert Adam Pearlman aka Azzam - was reported missing or dead inside Pakistan-Afghanistan border area.
On March 23, 2009 - Canadian daily Globe and Mail reported that Canadian convert to Islam, Beverly Giesbrecht, who established and ran a Muslim website “Jihad Unspun”- reportedly in Taliban captivity, is going to be beheaded if Canadian government doesn’t pay US$375,000 for her release. In the past, several people had claimed that she is a CIA agent and her website is a CIA front. The first to make such claim was no other than Rita Gatz (Baltimore Sun, April 2, 2003), an Iraqi-born Jewish woman whose father was hanged by Saddam Hussian regime for spying for Israel. She is the one-person director of S.I.T.E., a Zionist think tank. The LiberyForum (a Zionist front - I was banned within two weeks for posting my blog posts critical of Israel) also posted similar allegations against her on August 8, 2003.
Disregarding the western media’s ‘Islamophobe’ spins - the question comes to mind is - why in the hell would Taliban abduct someone like Beverly, who supported their cause and claimed that Al-Qaeda is a fraud created by CIA and MI6? The Pakhtoon has no history of killing foreign women, Muslims and non-Muslims, for political reasons or ransom money. Some of them, though, do believe in inflicting severe punishment upon their women caught in adultry. In the past, Yvonne Ridley, the British-born senior reporter of the Sunday Express, was arrested on September 28, 2001 by the Taliban while she was on an undercover assignment in Afghanistan. Though the Jewish-owned mass media in both Britain and the US - used her captivity to slander Islam and Taliban - she was so impressed by Taliban respect and tolerance toward her that 30 months after her release - she converted to Islam. Her captors never demanded ransom money or threatened to ‘behead her’.
The political ‘beheading’, like the ‘anti-Semitism‘ - was introduced into Muslim world by no other than the arm of Israeli fascism - Mossad. The first ‘beheading’ case was of American Jew Nick Berg, who was trained as a Mossad agent in Israel before being sent on a spying mission to Iraq. CIA/Mossad used Nick as a guinea-pig for pro-Bush propaganda.
Adam Pearlman’s case tells you how the Zionist Jews infiltrate among Muslim groups to defame Islam and Muslims. Adam’s grandfather, Dr. Carl Pearlman, was on the Board of Directors of the notorious Israeli mole, the ‘Anti-Defamation League (ADL)’. The Prison Planet Com posted (May 30, 2007) a detailed biography of this Israeli Mossad agent, who never failed to come up with a new tape to create more ‘Islamophobe’ whenever Israel needed it. More on Al-Qaeda here.
The French daily Le Figaro on October 17, 2007 - reported that French president Nicholas Sarkozy (like Adam Pearlman) is an ex. Mossad agent.

Well That settles it, then. She was a CIA agent. That explains why this story never got much press in the mainstream media.
Never knew that about Sarkozy, either.
I need to read more non-mainstream media like this to get the real truth.
They are Taliban militants.
What really rips me up is that this woman was a citizen journalist who went to Taliban country to try and understand the Taliban after the anti-Islamicness of the post-911 world. She went there as a peacemaker. She didn’t go to fight the Taliban, she went to extend the olive branch to them.
Canadian. Peacemaker. Open-minded towards Islam. Respectful. Female. And they kidnap her and threaten to chop off her head.
If a woman like this cannot go there and be safe then none of us are safe. It kills me.
What stupidity is this… go to offer the Taliban an olive branch as a woman… DUH
It kills you or her?
Yup, that website really is the most definitive answer on EVERYTHING under the Sun, not just the TRUTH of the way of ISLAM and CHINA cooperation in the rise of that great state that is PAKISTAN.
It makes you wonder, doesn’t it?
It can’t be 100% lies. I wonder how much goes on that we don’t know about. Why couldn’t she be a CIA agent?
Read some of the articles on there, it’s actually hilarious. I wouldn’t trust it for the weather!
A Second Canadian female as now kidnapped and asking for ransom.
canada.com/news/Woman+claimi … story.html
A woman claiming to be a kidnapped journalist called a Canadian TV station Wednesday, saying she fears dying in captivity and begging the federal government to help her come home.
“I’ve been held hostage by gunmen in Somalia for nearly 10 months,” the woman, claiming to be Amanda Lindhout, a freelance print and TV journalist from Sylvan Lake, Alta., told CTV News.
“I’m in a desperate situation, I’m being kept in a dark, windowless room in chains, without any clean drinking water and little or no food. I’ve been very sick for months without any medicine.”
The woman said she’s in need of “immediate aid,” and begs the Canadian government to help her family pay her ransom.
“Without it, I will die here,” she said. “I also tell them that they must deal directly with these people; my life depends on it.”
Lindhout, along with Australian photographer Nigel Brennan, was abducted while on a freelance assignment on Aug. 23.
On May 24, they spoke to an Agence France-Presse correspondent in Mogadishu by phone for five minutes from an undisclosed location.
That call was obtained after weeks of efforts to establish contact with the hostages, who appeared to be reading or reciting a statement, possibly under duress. There was no independent confirmation of their identities.
“I have been sick for months. Unless my government, the people of Canada, all my family and friends, can get one million dollars, I will die here, OK, that is certain,” Lindhout told AFP, sounding distressed.
She urged the Canadian government to give more help to her family’s attempts to secure her release after 274 days in detention with Brennan. The call was made to AFP through an intermediary, who claimed to be speaking on behalf of the kidnappers.
A Somali journalist and two drivers who were captured with Lindhout and Brennan were released Jan. 16.
“The situation here is very dire and very serious. I’ve been a hostage for nine months, the conditions are very bad, I don’t drink clean water, I am fed, at most, once a day,” Lindhout told AFP.
“I’m being kept . . . in a dark, windowless room, completely alone.”
“I love my country and I want to return, so I beg my government to come to my aid. Likewise, I ask all my fellow Canadian citizens and my family to contribute in any way possible in order to help me finally be released from Somalia and be able to return home.”
Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs would not comment on the case.
Lindhout’s Canadian friends and colleagues are trying to keep her situation in the public spotlight via YouTube videos, Facebook pages and the website www.amandalindhout.com.
You know, I feel for her, but she knew the risks. Still, it makes me sad. Why do people who believe in the goodness of others always get proven wrong?
Damn, Sylvan Lake is right near my ancestral home, we used to spend summers on the beach there.
I won a karaoke contest in the bar there shortly before I came to Taiwan.
Homegirl in a mess of trouble.
That’s sad, chief.
There’s just no news of her. I hope somebody pays a ransom, quickly. Such a shame for a girl like that to go to waste.
What kind of people terrorize innocent girls who only want to work for peace? :fume:
