Sad to see the passing of Chen Ding-nan yesterday (former DPP Minister of Justice). Had a reputation as being several notches above the usual level of cleanness of Taiwanese politicos.
Yeap, my wife also agrees that guys like him should represent the standard of the politicians in Taiwan - hell, maybe we would have better trains and buses.
I was sorry to hear the news. I don’t usually have much respect for the pan-Greens but I got the impression Chen Dingnan was one of the better ones.
It is said that the office workers, teachers and police in Yilan where the major turncoats in the last mayoral ellections, as it is said he was extremelly strict. The new mayor is a lot more lenient, and many “bad” things started happening since the ellections. The new construction rules in Yilan, that allow more to be built in the rural areas, are a good example of this.
Baloney. He wasn’t elected xianzhang because the stink of the other DPP scandals (Gaoxiong subway worker riots, etc.) at the time rubbed off on him.
