Chiang in Russia why?

Reading through the little bio on Faina Chiang Fang liang today reminded me of something that I never got straight in my mind, which is; how did Chiang Ching kuo end up at the Ural heavy Machinery Plant in scenic Siberia? The paper (which I do not view as being any great historical source) says his dad, Chiang Kai Shek (known as Peanut to those who loved him, like myself and General Stillwell) “exiled him there in a purge of leftist from the KMT”.

If so that is kind of the ultimate version of dad saying “you have been bad, go you room”. In this case it was "you have been bad go to your room

CJG and Deng Xiaoping were classmates in USSR at Moscow, doing was oversea Chinese do, study and learn to bring back modern knowledge to China.

However, when CKS decided to purge the CCP from ROC, CJG was a hostage to ensure the ROC would not turn against USSR politically. Which is why CJK ended up in a Siberian Iron Factory.

CCK was pretty much being a bad boy, and sent to Russia to shape up. This was a period of close cooperation between the USSR and the revolutionary groups in China. Many Chinese associated witht he revolution went to Russia to study, including many who were to become big names in the CCP.

I’m not sure about all this hostage stuff. It was int he paper, but it’s the first I’ve heard of it. From what I read, after CKS and his gangster backers purged the KMT of its communists CCK stongly condemned (and sort of disowned) his father. So he was not allowed (by CKS) to come back for some time (11 years, if I remember correctly. The must have finally reconciled though, because as soon as he got back CCK was sent to work as head of the strong arm of the KMTs ‘funding division’ in Shanghai.

Wasn’t he sent to Russia to study the enemies ideology? That’s what I was told… :unamused:
