Childbirth is inherently dangerous. I’ve read the main factor is the size of our heads, needed to hold our big brains, even though we have to give birth relatively very early compared to other mammals, as can be seen by the helpless state of our infants for a long period after birth. Most mammals have relatively easy childbirth by comparison.
