China is picking quarrels and provoking trouble

Strike while the iron is hot

Putin can’t say anything right now, and if Russia says something in the future China can say “well, you should have brought it up when we released the map, ours now”

With pretend make-believe history, you’d be amazed how much territory you can claim!

Such fantasies however rarely end well.

Earlier this year China also demanded that all maps must label towns in the Russian Far East with their old Qing dynasty “Chinese” names.

They are definitely up to something.

Let’s not forget the KMT’s plan to retake all Chinese territories.

China has been relatively quiet around Taiwan recently . I think because election time is nearing and they don’t want to damage the KMT’s chances of winning.

There was a surge at the end of September

And October is considered one of only two weather windows for large scale invasion, probably not a good time to push the envelope

Interesting , now I know why. It just seemed COMPARATIVELY quieter.

I don’t think they are actually quieter than before.

They just had one of the largest incursions into Taiwan’s ADIZ today.15 planes of all types, from stealth fighters to bombers.

15 is far from the largest

I’m probanly just desensitized to it , it’s like a dog constantly barking but never biting , or swerving away just before it bites.

And that was 2021

Back to the Phils, it has occurred to me that China is playing with fire because unlike Taiwan the US does have a legal obligation to defed the Philippines

Yeah, I agree there is no way the US would not help the Phillipinnes . I’d rather it happened there than here though. If China and the US had a naval clash in the Phillipinnes do you think that China might attack Taiwan in that event? And does Japan have an alliance with the Phillipinnes too?

If they did attack Taiwan at the same time that would likely drag in Japan, Australia, possibly NATO allies if not NATO itself, probably not Korea and India but who knows how far it could escalate. That risk of escalation might keep the PLAN in check, but would be good for the US to send a few ships to Scarborough Shoal. They probably won’t yet, and the Phils perhaps don’t want them to, because of the risk of escalation

Because of their pacifist constitution, I don’t think Japan has a written obligation to fight for anyone. The Japanese have strongly suggested they would fight for Taiwan, but that isn’t a treaty obligation

I was referring to the month of October so far, but that’s no longer the case because:

Today (6AM of Oct 26 to 6AM of Oct 27), it’s 35 planes crossing into Taiwan’s ADIZ, and 15 naval vessels operating near Taiwan, including the aircraft carrier Shandong sailing through the Bashi channel.

So? They need to make some noise to prove their existence and give the western world some pressure on the bargain table. That’s normal.

We were discussing why there seemed to be less incursions this month, and @TT hypothesized since October is one of the few months suitable for amphibious operations, maybe China is keeping things on the down low this month to avoid misunderstandings. I’m just pointing out China doesn’t care about what the rest of the world thinks.

Yep they operate by their own rules and time tables.
No Nancy Pelosi here recently.

American and Canadian Warships Sail Through Waters Between China and Taiwan (msn.com)

I post this early and bleary eyed as I was awoken from my yurtful slumber by concussions not unlike large guns going off somewhere nearby, followed by something that sounded like bursts of .50 caliber gunfire.

I zipped around the western edge of Nangnan on my scooter and the perimeter seems secure. No contrails headed east or anything. The yurt is right next to a military outpost and they were pretty much quiet when I got back, just a guy going out for breakfast.

But, whoohoo. Wide awake now! Haven’t heard something like that since i went scuba diving in the Philippines and the fishermen with dynamite bombing the coral. :bomb: :fish: :headstone:

Update: they were practicing for the Matsu marathon fireworks show tonight.

First China propped up the military junta. Then when the junta failed to comply to all their demands, they are now supporting rebels called Three Brotherhood Alliance in the Shan State to takeover northern Myanmar.

The area used to be under KMT control prior to the 80s. Now there’s no stopping China’s interests in Myanmar.

Why Has the CCP Banned Demonizing America? - The American Spectator | USA News and Politics

Unfortunately, to the great dismay of the CCP, its demonization of the United States did not boost its economic performance. The three years of a draconian COVID lockdown has drastically damaged the Chinese economy. The CCP’s harsh treatment of private businesses has caused an exodus of the rich, and its discrimination against foreign businesses and the new campaign to catch foreign spies have scared away foreigners, including investors and tourists.
Obviously, the demonization of the U.S. must be reversed, at least temporarily, to save China’s economy. And the CCP is very good at it.
A few days ago, on Oct. 31, 2023, the very People’s Daily that had been attacking the U.S. in full force published an editorial on its website, People.cn, entitled: “Promoting the Stable and Positive Development of China-U.S. Relations.”
