Intelligent well spoken guy from China laying it all out straight.

Nice video! I agree with many of his points.
But I’m not sure this guy can go back to China safely…
“There’s no right ideology”
“Freedom and safety aren’t mutually exclusive”
“Everyone is under the rules of law, including government officials”
“Government officials are indeed public servants”

Watch out, Simon!

Yeah seriously. This kid comes from a well off family in China. In his previous videos you can see his parents’ big house in the Shanghai suburbs, BMW, etc. He’s not flashy about it or anything, I just worry he might be a little naive. He’s clearly had some overseas schooling and seems like a nice kid, but he doesn’t seem to be fully aware that he’s poking at a very sensitive authoritarian regime.

I hope he isn’t that naive that he will take a trip back to China soon. Most likely he is not planning that. Stay overseas, China is too dangerous for people like that right now. Lots of Chinese would be willing to discuss for and against him sure but the CCP will not.

It’s a very good video overall this guy is very articulate .
After living here and dealing with the traffic and Taiwan laobans and low pay offers we maybe don’t have such rosy views but it doesn’t take away from his core points which is why many of us are still here .:sunglasses:

I likes this point in particular , lack of censorship and religious and ideological conservatism isn’t just good compared to mainland China, it’s actually really good compared to most countries in Asia! Truly a bright spot in Asia. What would be good is if he picked out some comics or books or newspapers rom the shelves to illustrate his point, or some snippets from the Taiwanese internet.

He made a similar video a bit earlier titled Mainland China v.s. Taiwan

In that video he avoided talking about Taiwan’s free society. I commented that

The greatest things about Taiwan, which you cannot mention, are liberty, democracy, equity, multi-culturalism, and the rule of law. Taiwan isn’t perfect in these areas, but its failings can be publicly acknowledged and discussed, and people and organizations work hard to make Taiwan a better place, even if progress is hard won and comes at a snails pace.

I’d like to think the new video is sort of acknowledging he indeed avoided talking about what’s best about Taiwan.

I first found his channel from those youtubers who used to live in China, c-milk (laowhy86) or SerpentZA. One of them mentioned Simon in their videos and asked viewers to give him a watch.

Some of the things he says about Taiwan is something even the USA can’t touch.

In the US politicians are lording over everyone except for maybe minor local officials. Presidential candidates are under so many layers of protection that unless you’re a VIP of that candidate, there is no way you can be within 100 feet of them. In the US the elites truly control the country, and policies are meant to 1. serve the elites, and 2. keep the people quiet. You know as good as NHI is, there were faults in it, for example if you can’t pay the fee your card gets locked. But they fixed that as of 2016, meaning they can’t lock your card just because you’re unable to pay the fees.

Yea he should probably stay out of China. I’m not really sure what they do but youtube doesn’t work there so I’m not sure if officials in China will deem him a political activist.
