Chip versus non-chip ROC passport

Do I choose whether I get a chip or non-chip ROC passport, or does TECO decide? How is it determined?

Arent they all that way now? Didnt realise there was a choice.

I think they’re all with chips. You could however ask if there’s a possibility to deactivate it. You couldn’t use the E-Gate at the airport with an deactivated chip however.

All have a chip. Some countries (e.g. USA) don’t allow entry if your passport doesn’t have a chip.

I’d be surprised if they allowed the biometric chip to be disabled.

You can choose a TW Passport without electronic chip but only in the event of loss of passport or when is urgently needed
