Choosing a university

right now I really can’t decide between Chin-Yi University in Taichung and Fu-Jen University in Taipei to study for Master in Information Management (for now I’m considering these 2 options first, but I’m open to other options).

I’m a qiaosheng registered under Overseas Chinese Cooperative Education program, but I decide not to take the +4 University program included under this scheme (since I’ve already have bachelor degree). My last TOCFL CAT Listening & Reading test I’m in B1.

Pros and cons between these 2 unis according to my opinion:

Chin-Yi University:
Plus

  • public university
    Cons:
  • this uni is not as good as other public universities (NTU, NTUST, etc.)
  • I think this school is dominated by qiaosheng instead of locals IMHO (although I’m a qiaosheng, too). Dominated by qiaosheng makes me less communicating in Chinese

Fu-Jen:
Pros:

  • good private uni
  • Catholic-valued school (since I’m Catholic)
  • location (Taipei has many opportunities to explore compared to Taichung)
    Cons:
  • private uni (in general people tend to think that private universities is not as good as public universities)
  • cost, Taipei+private school (but I think this one can be compromised)
  • Fu-Jen is not really popular for Information Technology sector

What do you think between these 2, considering pros and cons that I give and other factors in general, like acceptance rate, facilities, course difficulty, employability rate, etc. I’m not putting NTU or NTUST into consideration because I believe with my mediocre Mandarin it’ll hard for me to be accepted. But again, I’m open for other options

I’d rather live in Taichung

What this mean?

僑生,Overseas Chinese

I thot hua chiao means overseas chinese

Better not look up what “thot” means…

yeah that’s what I mean, Overseas Chinese come from Southeast Asia like Indonesian Chinese, Vietnamese Chinese, etc

Taichung has a lot of road accidents. Pedestrians becoming roadkill…

Etc

Also hard to go around without a vehicle

for this problem I think it still can be compromised, whether I’ll need to buy a vehicle/not. It’s not about where I’ll live, but for study

Throw NTUST into the mix. Can’t hurt!

I was gonna say this. if you got the means to get your own transport, OP, Taichung has plenty to explore in terms of wilderness n whatnot. Otherwise, Taipei is a infinitely more interesting city imo.

Better buy a big suv… u know in case u need release… heavy tinted windows also help

The OP is an overseas student seeking do to graduate studies, not an obnoxious factory boss from Tucheng.

right now I’m talking about choosing uni, not about choosing car XD please not OOT :expressionless:

Have a look at Tamkang’s program too.

Taichung has better weather that Taipei.

I’d explore further South, say, Sun Yat Send University. Tainan has better weather, amenities, transportation. Though yeah, anything South of Taoyuan needs private transportation.

However, we do not recommend foreign students to drive scooters. Too dangerous. And too expensive to repatriate corpses/get long term medical care. Walking around and crossing the roads are dangerous enough, no need to gamble and up the ante by riding a scooter. The odds are NOT in your favor.
