We have decided to spend this Xmas in Taipei … can anyone suggest a good place to have lunch/dinner espcially if a Santa might make an appearance as we have a five year old in tow.

Well loooks like Santa will be by-passing Taipei!!
There are a lot of decorations put up at Christmas, smileymiley, but I’m not sure about Santa (apart from half the bus drivers).
Somewhere like Mitsukoshi (near Taipei 101) might be your best bet. There’s a massive outdoor Christmas tree there. Maybe they do something involving the man himself, though I don’t know for sure.
I was at the Zhongshan Highschool Bus top and one of the bus drivers was dressed up in a complete santa outfit: suit, beard and belly. Beats the traditional mall visits. Hope that helps. 
Great, so how will smiley explain to their 5 year old that Santa’s wrecked his sleigh and now drives a bus ?
You will find that most years TavernCaptain manages to get one of his “more portly” customers into a “state of confusion” early December and persuades them that dressing up as Father Christmas and performing for the other patrons and their children would be a really good idea!
Thanks for the replies. Do you know if any of the hotels will be doing anything? Otherwise if a slip a fiver to street stall owner to dress up as Santa reckon a 5 year old would be fooled if I told him oyster omelettes are traditional Xmas fare?
