Ok, the intrigue of the headline got my attention.
Seems Praia Formosa is roughly on the same latitude as Casablanca Morocco and not Portugal.
Surely it’s better weather than Taiwan Formosa.

Latitude doesn’t matter. Madeira is part of Portugal.
the word “formosa” is Portuguese for “beautiful” (in the feminine), hence:
“praia formosa” = beautiful beach
Taiwan was (and still is) know in Portugal as “Ilha Formosa” = “beautiful island”
CR7 was born Madeira island and started playing football at a local club.
Like Taiwan, Madeira is also a volcanic island with seismic activity and tropical weather, and has great pineapples, tea and seafood.
