Chunghwa Router (Nokia G-040W-Q) login

I moved to a new apt (= new internet, 100/40mbit) which works fine so far, but I have problems logging into one of my games. It seems like this is a router issue, since a usb-hotspot via phone let me login into the game.

I guess some port is not opened, but I can’t login to the routers interface (I have found the login though https://192.168.1.1/login.html).

I tried the following logins:
admin/admin
admin/password
user/user
cht/chtnadsl

Does anyone know the login? It doesnt say on the back of the router :frowning:

Used to be this - cht/chtnvdsl in north Taiwan, cht/chtcvdsl for central Taiwan and cht/chtsvdsl for south Taiwan. Don’t know if they still use those as I haven’t used CHT in years.

cht
40wq + the last 4 digits of the MAC address (lower case)

the newer routers all follow this pattern, using the model number of the router and a few digits from the mac address.

Can you post the picture of the modem and the sticker (specific model number)?

When the CHT installer came. I directly asked him to write down the admin password for the modem on a piece of paper for me.

cht
660c + 4 last digits of the MAC

A little off topic, but do you think there is any benefit to getting an old CHT modem / router pair replaced?

I’ve had this set since 2020. It seems to run the fine, I just wonder if the connection would be more stable on fresh equipment. Thanks.

Edit - would providers be willing to replace it, or do they put off that cost as long as there’s no problem?

I had mine replaced with CHT a couple of months back. The connection (both wired to my PC and wifi to my phone) kept dropping randomly and needing the router to be power cycled, which didn’t always work either. It was also around 5 years old and besides the connection problem seemed to run quite hot.

The CHT engineer couldn’t reproduce the problem while he was here — because it was intermittent and not happening at the time — and he blamed the second wireless router I’d plugged into the CHT one for a better signal (not the problem, because the wired connection to the CHT router was also dropping). He did eventually replace the router when I insisted there really was a problem, but he didn’t want to do it.

If you don’t have a problem with the connection in the first place, I feel like they’d be even more reluctant to replace it.

I had to power cycle mine a few times, it would randomly drop connection altogether but it wasn’t doing it lately for some reason.

Looks like I’ll be calling Chunghwa again later today! My router, or I think its power adapter, just tried to set itself on fire. :grimacing:

I was mooching around in the living room at 4:30 a.m. and heard some scary-sounding electrical crackling then smelled the burning electrics. I tracked it down to an inactive router and a power adapter that was still very hot to the touch and no longer supplying power (as checked using a multimeter).

I don’t remember if the guy last time replaced the power adapter too or just the router, but I’ll definitely be telling him to replace both this time!

I’m glad I was awake for that! I think I’ll now be investing in a couple of smoke alarms too. :grimacing:

Just for posterity, I’m quite satisfied with Chunghwa’s customer service and how quickly they’ve fixed stuff both times I’ve needed to call them.

I wasn’t able to report the problem online because the system wouldn’t accept any of the last four digits of the account holder’s ID numbers I tried putting in, but I called 123 at 3:15 p.m. today, immediately got connected with an English translator (as opposed to an English-speaking customer service rep), and was told they’d try to send someone tomorrow afternoon at the earliest. The engineer called back at 3:35 p.m. to say he could come now, and he was here within 10 minutes to replace the power adapter. Quite impressive!

Glad they worked for you! CHT caused me so much angst in the past I was very, very happy to change to a local service.
