Just when you thought it was safe to think that the stench from the mountain of dirty laundry was bearable…

The CIA will declassify hundreds of pages of long-secret records detailing some of the intelligence agency’s worst illegal abuses – the so-called “family jewels” documenting a quarter-century of overseas assassination attempts, domestic spying, kidnapping and infiltration of leftist groups from the 1950s to the 1970s, CIA Director Michael V. Hayden said yesterday.
The documents, to be publicly released next week, also include accounts of break-ins and theft, the agency’s opening of private mail to and from China and the Soviet Union, wiretaps and surveillance of journalists, and a series of “unwitting” tests on U.S. civilians, including the use of drugs.
And I bet not ONE fucking word about Roswell! :fume:
CIA doesn’t have a 'domestic brief.’
By the way, I’ve seen this same story on 4 different message boards today. Yours is the funniest title so far.
Why don’t people use the original title of articles?
I don’t know what you mean TC. Care to e-blabberate?
I know everyone is going to think this will kill conservatives (because we’re evil), but there were a whole rotta liberals in the white house during them years.

Just an offhand comment about the CIA and Roswell, New Mexico. The CIA isn’t allowed, on paper per its mandate, to operate domestically. Thats the domain of the FBI…among others.
Most, if not all, of this has been ‘exposed’ previously. But here it is for todays news. All wrapped up and with a pretty bow…
Open the doors and let the public in I say!
After all…why have a “Spy Agency” if its going to be kept secret?

An American liberal is a Red Tory anywhere else.
Except in Europe, of course, where a party must have at least four words in it’s flatulently inflated title.
I love hearing CIA muck about about the Kennedy years.
As he’s really the only so-called liberal that counts.
Johnson was a Toad. Carter A Flop. Clinton is too recent for much of the juicy stuff to float to the surface, or at least the shallow end of the pool.
The army tested its soldiers’ reactions to LSD. Basically, locked them in a glass room after tryin to see what was the max dosage they could handle. folks interviewed apparently were on LSD for weeks at a time. that would #$%@ anyone up.

Actually that program was run by the CIA in a series of experiments known as Project MKULTRA. The US Army and Canadian government collaborated with the CIA to supply it with subjects, including American soldiers. The Church Committee and Rockefeller Commission determined that the vast majority of “patients” did not grant their consent, or when they did, were not made aware of the true nature of the experiment.
