My friends in Kaohsiung who abstain from moving to Taipei usually cite the bad weather and lack of quality apartments as their main reasons.
High rent is usually a secondary reason, because they know that would be off-set by higher-paying jobs.
Of course, these are only the people who have seriously considered moving to Taipei. Most people in KH wouldn’t even begin to consider leaving.

I have nothing to contribute beyond my own amusement that I started the Taiwanese rechao restaurants thread; that spawned the Hong Kong thread; which has in turn spawned this Cities in Taiwan thread (link embedded because maybe this will get separated into something else!). And now we’re talking about not letting macaque out when in the office or something like that.
The internet can be so delightful.
